UPES is an unique institution. Out of many Firsts to its credit, the first convocation had the first citizen of the nation as the Chief Guest of Honor. The then, President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam read out the convocation address.

The First Convocation (16th October, 2005)

"I am particularly happy to be with you today in this institution, which is one of the unique institutions in the country imparting education on petroleum and energy which is lifeline for all activities in the nation."

"In essence I would suggest UPES to give world leadership in quality manpower generation for exploration of energy sources."

The Second Convocation
