16th October 2005 would be long remembered as a red letter day in the history of UPES. The day marked the first convocation of the University at its newly built world-class campus in scenic Dehradun.
Appreciating the University, Dr. A.P.J.
Abdul Kalam, the president of India said, "I am particularly
happy to be with you today in this institution, which is one of
the unique institutions in the country imparting education on
petroleum and energy, which is life time for all activities in
the nation."
Addressing the audience which formed the
top brass of Oil & Gas sector and specially to the student of
the University, the President laid stress on the Energy
Independence. He said that the Bio Fuel are the future
alternative to the short lived Oil reserved. He recommended the
University of Petroleum and Energy Studies to take the lead and
enable the establishment of model Bio Diesel plants with the inputs
of Jatropha coming from different parts of the country.
