UPES WEB
Advanced Computing Centre
The Advanced Computing Centre at UPES provides world class facilities – easily comparable, and in some instances, surpassing the equipment in labs of some of the best engineering institutes in the world.
The UPES centre consists of a network of more than 2500 computers (desktop and laptop), as well as specialized academic computing labs and services. The computer labs have both Sun and Intel based systems running applications like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Mathematica the Adobe Creative Suite, and office automation suites. Additionally, CD/DVD burners, scanners, printers, and a large format plotter are also available for use by students, faculty and staff.
A Schlumberger specialization, a Reservoir Engineering Lab is available for students and researchers. This includes specialized compute intensive hardware, software and data sets as well as technical support and consultations on Schlumberger Petrel and Eclipse.
A fully wireless (Wi-Fi) computer network covers the entire campus – in all indoor classroom/ laboratory locations, student breakout areas, common areas, and student residences on campus. This network connects all campus computers to each other and the Internet.
With a completely virtualized infrastructure running on VmWare, the centre hosts over 35 virtual servers running critical functions like email, learning management systems, network file storage, printer sharing, and general timesharing computing
A fully integrated learning management system (Moodle) provides a knowledge repository for academic resources. Available 24x7, it also provides a platform for online testing and assessment.
An IT support team maintains the University's computer resources and assists users as well as provides specialized training to users on specialized topics.
The University has academic alliances with leading software OEMs like Microsoft Corporation and Sun Microsystems. These provide access to their entire range of products for education and training. Specialized software like ORACLE for database management, Systat for statistical analysis, etc. are also available for student use.
All this and more ensures that UPES' students are at the cutting edge of computing technology.
