The ‘First International Seminar on Nano Technology in Conventional and Alternate Energy Systems, Global Status and Pathways’ events was organized on 12th-13th August, 2013. In the conference, 17 speakers from four difference countries and 200 participants from industries, academics institutions, and research organizations all over the country and abroad had attended the Seminar. During the two days of deliberations the experts in Nano sciences shared their views and concerns in technology and skill development, application of the technology in diverse areas, research and development, technology innovation, technology commercialization, human capital development and technology convergence. The seminar had a unified poster session from all the participants. Posters represented areas like Nano computing; development of photo catalysts, Nano material for high speed water sterilization, Nano Technology in defense and security etc. which attracted the attention of all the participants and guests. The seminar was sponsored by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Research and Development Centre of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Central Science and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The First International Conference was successfully organized on February 15-16 2013. The Conference received 105 research papers, presented by different scholars, experts and students from across the country. The Former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, Dr. Ramachandran, addressed the participants in the special plenary address. The conference also witnessed presence of Shri Indu K Pandey, Former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand and Mr. Cherian Thomas, CEO, IDFC Foundation, as the Chief Guest. Thought provoking speeches were delivered by the eminent speakers including Dr. Hemant Trivedi, Director, School of Petroleum Management, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Dr. K.V. Damodharan, Mr. Sanjeev Singhal, SBI Project Finance Division, Mr. Ashok Emani, IDFC, Dr. Reshmy Nair, Administrative Staff College of India among others.
Among all the received research papers which were evaluated by the panel of experts and Chairpersons, below were the Best Papers for the different tracks;
In the student category, Mr. Abhishek Pundir, Mr. Vaibhav and Ms. Yogiata Sharma were adjudged as first, second and third respectively.
A one-day Conference on Energy Sector for Legal Fraternity was organized specifically for the legal fraternity. The conference commenced with the keynote address made by Mr. S. Krishnan, Chairperson, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Participation was seen encouraging among delegates from reputed law firms, legal consultants, private practitioners
Started with the Welcome address of Dr. Parag Diwan, Vice Chancellor, UPES, the Management Development Program on “Power Business – Past, Present & Future” saw the participation from delegates from various organizations of repute. Various presentations and discussions on issues related to Power Generation, Transmission, Distribution and many more were taken forward by eminent power sector professionals on the forum.
UPES and Centre for Management Development organized two days Management Development Program on ‘Driving Solar Power Growth’ on 5th and 6th of July, 2013. Around 15 participants participated to explore and discuss the Policy Dynamics for Solar Power, Technology aspects of Solar Power, Project Risk & development, Financing, Grid Integration, Economics and activities which included visit of 100 kW Solar Power Plant in the campus and besides, visit of research facilities of Bio fuels, Hydrogen fuel as well as the Rig Zone to build the participants’ clear understanding on wide range of energy sources.
For the first time a Round Table of Law Firms, jointly organized by Society of Indian Law Firms and College of Legal Studies, UPES, was convened under the leadership of Mr. Lalit Bhasin, President Society of Indian Law Firms. The who's who of the legal fraternity graced the occasion including the Chief Guest of the occasion Mr. Mohan Parasar, Solicitor General of India. The deliberations of the table were decided to take further by forming four sub-committees who could pave the way for vertical integration to become a reality. The members of the Advisory Council of College of Legal Studies UPES played an important role in the Round Table.:
