Bachelor of Design (B. Des.) program at UPES, gives the students the flexibility to work in multi – disciplinary environments. The course will teach you to address contemporary issues in an independent and creative way, in order to participate in a most stimulating and gratifying career. The emphasis is on the fundamentals of the following domains

Industrial Design

Industrial Design is a process to create new products which are to satisfy the needs of the masses as well as for the specific needs of any particular group of users. The process deals with understanding the needs of the users, create concept sketches, understand the material, texture colour requirements, create mock-up and 3D models to execute the idea into making of a tangible product. The course at SoDS aims at creating designers who have a strong thought process and deep thinking regarding the subject.Application Industrial Design ranges from designing kitchen products, table-top products, electronic products, bio-medical products to jigs & fixtures for spatial design / applications, furniture systems etc.

Transportation Design
 
Transportation industry is one of the vastest industries that cater to the needs of the movement of the masses as well as material. The entire sector encompasses varied verticals of products, processes & systems where intervention of ‘Design’ – i.e. bettering the existing design, can create the ‘unique differentiation’.The focus of this B. Des Program in Transportation Design at SoDS is to cater to the design needs of the entire transportation industry which ranges from water transport to air transport and include, mining & material movement vehicles, Construction vehicles, and special purpose vehicles such as those used in defence etc.
  • Career Pathways- Products for Automotive OEMs, Automobiles – 2 / 3 / 4 Wheelers, Systems & Processes for Transportation, Heavy / Construction Vehicles, Railways and Electromotive units(EMUs), Water Transportation Products & Systems etc.
 
Digital Design

The world is undergoing a digital revolution in the last few decades, and demand for digital professionals in Design is ever increasing. With a continually increasing business models opting for digital mode, the scope for creative digital professional is ever increasing.
This course, particularly tailored to respond to the needs of the creative Industry, aims at evolving professionals who are competent in creative thinking and in technical aspects of digital media, communication, Interaction, production. State of the art infrastructure (including Software) is in place to assist them in executing their projects/assignments.This course aims at developing the creative abilities using the digital media in Animation and special effects, Game design, Web-based interactions, Digital Video production, Generative arts, Digital Installations

Studying Design at UPES –School of Design Studies will facilitate to hone your distinctive viewpoint as well as the perception of societal values thus shaping the design of the comprehensive surroundings.

  • Minimum 50% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) and valid UPESDAT Score

Non Examination Pathway – admissions through Board Merit / UCEED: 


  • For Board Merit :Minimum 65% marks in class X and Class XII .
  • For UCEED : Minimum 50% marks in class X and Class XII with valid UCEED scores.
