Just two years into his graduation program and Alok Pandey’s credentials already look impressive. He is an Intel Student Ambassador and if you notice the swag in this title that’s because it is one of the program benefits by Intel ?. He is the Secretary of UPES Chapter of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)and a Department Editor for ACM XRDS, New York. Alok is a B.Tech CSE student at UPES and is pursuing specialization in Business Analytics and Optimization. His subjects of interest include Data Science, Big Data and Internet of Things.
The Intel® NervanaTM AI Academy Student Ambassador program is a carefully designed initiative by Intel to help drive innovation and evangelism of Deep Learning (DL), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) worldwide. The academy works with universities worldwide to bring education and access to newly optimized frameworks and technologies, hands-on training, and workshops to students, data scientists, and developers.
Alok was appointed an ambassador after clearing a grilling interview focused primarily on testing his knowledge in areas of DL, AI and ML. He also had to submit details of his recent work and publications in this field. He believes that pursuing specialization in Business Analytics and Optimization from UPES provided him an edge. “This specialization does not limit itself only to the general subjects of computer science, it introduces a student to variety of prominent verticals including Data Mining, Warehousing, Statistical Analysis, R Programming, Machine Learning, AI, Python, and much more. UPES has assisted me tremendously to think, plan, and execute beyond the basic boundaries of learning by understanding the practical implementations of the latest technologies via domain specific lab sessions, and interactive lectures.”
As a student ambassador for the Intel AI Academy Alok has many responsibilities including providing training to a minimum of 125 students. He will also get opportunities to be a host speaker of one or more Ambassador Labs.
Alok believes that one can learn a lot beyond classrooms. He has been able to enhance his interpersonal skills by being an active member of multiple student chapters and extra-curricular activities at UPES. For instance, being associated with the ACM Student Chapter of UPES gave him the opportunity to work as a Department Editor at ACM XRDS, New York.
