B.Tech. - Fire and Safety Engineering

Details

This four-year undergraduate program integrates the study of fire, its various hazards, and safety strategies along with general safety management. The B.Tech. Fire and Safety program is aligned with the vision to develop competent fire and safety professionals of integrity, who can contribute to nation-building.

Graduates of this program will be trained to perform risk assessments and accident investigations and develop safety strategies for a broad range of projects. The program offers unique courses such as fire hazards and forensics, structural fire protection design, fire risk assessment & planning, real-time risk reduction dynamics, functional safety through Al/ML, fire modelling and simulation, and development of new age safety gears, among many others.

Graduates of this discipline are highly sought after by industries as 'Safety Officers' and 'Fire and Safety Officers' as their presence is mandated under the Factories Act of India. Their contribution at the organisation level is to assist in or assure fire-safety conditions at the workplace towards minimisation of accidents, increasing the work efficiency and company profitability. Fire and Safety Engineering graduates are employed in all the leading industries and firms in India as well as abroad.

  • Dual degree opportunity (Complete 2 years at UPES & 2 years abroad) at the University of Exeter (QS ranked 163), the University of Aberdeen UK (QS ranked 220), Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) etc.
  • Strong alumni network. UPES fire & safety engineering graduates are working in all the major companies in India and abroad.
  • The course syllabi are co-designed and co-delivered in collaboration with the industry.
  • Mentors were advisors of the Govt. of India on safety issues.
  • Students are given default membership of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI), and Green Up Club. This will provide the benefits of networking with industry and knowledge exchange with national and international experts and peers in the field.
  • Up to six-month dedicated project and internship with opportunities for support/scholarship from reputed industries and premium national/international institutes of research. The experience gained from these helps students become industry-ready professionals by the end of the program.
  • The student gets hands-on experience in world-class Health Safety Environment Lab at UPES premises.

UPES’ curriculum framework is holistic in its overall structure and yet focuses on the individual need of the student to discover, experience, explore and challenge. Along with the core subject, students have the option to choose from subject-focused specialisations. They are also allowed to choose minor/exploratory subject from other schools at UPES that are: School of Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Law, School of Business, School of Health Sciences, School of Design, School of Modern Media, and School of Liberal Studies.

Further, based on the multifaceted needs of the global workplace and evolving lifestyles, the curriculum offers Signature and Life-Skills courses through School for Life. To round off this learning experience, students are required to do mandatory internships in the social sector, government/public sector, and industry. The combinations available for students to pick and choose from are endless, ensuring both depth and width of knowledge.
