Overview
Business Analytics and Optimization (BAO) refers to the skills, technologies, applications and practices for continuous iterative exploration and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive future business planning.

In short, Business Analytics and Optimization helps make their companies more efficient, effective and profitable. With BAO techniques and tools, organizations can convert large masses of raw ‘data’ into meaningful and actionable ‘information’ which can help in running their business more efficiently.

The businesses today .. from Banks to Telecom companies to Manufacturing entities, to large Retailers, etc .. in India as well as abroad .. are facing tough challenges of market dynamics. They have to analyse their past performance and data and constantly be on toes to launch newer or repositioned products, services, or offerings. Without this, they face challenging competition in the market, and start losing market share. This is where BAO as a discipline is increasingly becoming indispensible in today’s world.

This program helps prepare students for careers in "economy of tomorrow" industries. They play a vital role in their organizations' technological direction. In an IT end-user industry, BAO responsibilities can reside in various corporate functions and departments, such as operations, product development, information systems and finance. For IT consulting/services and IT products organizations (such as IBM, Accenture, CSC, Wipro, Google, TCS, Infosys, etc), the BAO consultants lead large-scale data warehousing and business intelligence projects, advising large clients the world over in reshaping their businesses.
