Transportation
With the opening of the Aviation sector, privatization of Ports and Shipping infrastructure and setting up of dedicated Automotive Design shops, the Indian Transportation sector is on a roll. One of the fastest growing sectors in India, it is facing a severe shortage of quality, trained manpower that can deliver from day one.

Aviation

With a growth rate of 18% per annum, the Indian aviation industry is one of the fastest growing aviation industries in the world. The Government's open sky policy has led to many overseas players entering the market and the industry has been growing both in terms of players and number of aircrafts.

Today, private airlines account for around 75% share of the domestic aviation market. Scheduled domestic air services are now available from 82 airports as against 75 in 2006. The Indian Civil Aviation market grew at a CAGR of 18%, and was worth US$ 5.6 billion in 2008. By 2020, Indian airports are expected to handle more than 100 million passengers including 60 million domestic passengers and around 3.4 million tonnes of cargo per annum.

Significant measures to propel further growth in the civil aviation sector are on the anvil. Investment in airport infrastructure will go up US$ 9 billion by 2013, of which close to US$ 6.8 billion is expected to come through public private partnerships (PPP) model, according to a study by research firm Frost & Sullivan. This is expected to open up a vast array of opportunities for trained professionals in the Aviation and Allied Services.

Over the next 2 decades, India is envisaged to be one of the largest Aerospace Markets in the world for wide and narrow body aircrafts.

      Ports & Shipping

95% of India’s trade by volume and 70% by value is carried out through maritime transport. The Indian shipping industry consists of about 616 ships with a total capacity of 6.62 million tons Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT). About 258 ships are engaged in overseas trade while the rest ply inland routes.

The sector is getting a tremendous boost through private sector participation in major ports. There are already about 55 shipping companies in the sector, of which 19 deal exclusively in coastal trade, and 29 are engaged in overseas trade. The rest operate in both types of trade. India has 12 major and 184 minor / intermediate ports spread across the vast coastline of 7517km.
