UURJA is the annual cultural youth festival of UPES and as the name suggests, the event is full of vigor and energy of students, faculty, participating individuals from various universities and colleges across India and sponsors from various local and national level organizations. It is an interactive ground for dynamic youth from various universities and colleges from the country.
Students get together to celebrate the spirit of life by performing in various cultural, technical and social events in various dimensions of performing arts. Uurja 2015, a colour-filled & colour-inspired extravaganza of fun-filled & fun-motivated events, witnessed more than 37 programs in Flag Ship, Special and Fun sequences comprising arts, photography, music, dance, poetry, drama and lots more. The theme of Uurja 2015 was “Superheroes”. Each colour of the event branding, thus, had its own cause worth fighting for and its own superhero to fight for the cause, including:
• Red for Road Safety – Flash • Black for Anti Drugs – Batman • Orange for Anti Ragging – Iron Man • Green for Save Environment – Green Lantern • Pink for Save Girl Child – Wonder Woman.
The Annual Youth Festival of UPES , UURJA (on 15th and 16th of Nov’14) observed 26 events in cultural and social categories. It was inaugurated with Ganesh Stuti – Indian Classical Performance by our students followed by our own student band which performed a fusion of Indian and western instruments.
The imperative of this event was team effort .
UPES hosted its 9th annual mega-cultural fest UURJA with robust enthusiasm and this time it touched the new zenith. The event was enthusiastically celebrated among jam packed audience. Evening functions on both days drew the largest ever audiences. More than 4000 students participated in the event and even those who have not participated, their enthusiasm and good wishes imparted energy to the active participants. Highlights of URJA 2013 were:
- Launch of Android application for the first time in UPES
- Live webcast of major UURJA events
- Video/photography by students
- Designing of brochure, backdrop and all banners by the students.

Ms Ansheka Gambhir from BA LLB (Hons) and Mr Rahul Uniyal from BBA AutoMarketing won the title of Ms UURJA and Mr UURJA 2013 after qualifying tough rounds of 3 levels.
UURJA – Growing Exponentially Since 2005
The very first UURJA was initiated by the first batch of outgoing students in the year 2005. It was launched as an intra-university event with a vision to scale it up to an inter-varsity event at the national level, down the road. Close to 500 students participated in this inaugural event. The next year, UURJA-06 was an inter-varsity event within the state of Uttarakhand where 1500 students from many professional colleges affiliated to the universities of Uttarakhand participated.
UURJA, by its third year, had grown popular amongst the student community of the state of Uttarakhand. UURJA-07 witnessed the participation of 5000 students from various colleges in the state of Uttarakhand. The remarkable features of this event were “Hasya Kavi Sammelan” and “War of Bands
UURJA-08 got scaled up phenomenally wherein apart from the universities in Uttarakhand it saw participation of universities from other states as well. 6000 students from 20 different universities were a part of this Mega Event. The special feature in 2008 was the live performance of the nationally acclaimed band “Parikrama”. Selection of “YOUTH ICON” was also introduced.
|As UURJA grew popular and the participants increased, it moved from being a two-day affair to a three-day mega event. UURJA-09 got bigger and better with participation of more than 8000 students from institutes as far as Pune, Dhanbad and Mumbai . 2009 also saw the addition of social events. It was kicked off with a mesmerizing performance by physically challenged students (with hearing impairment) from “Bajaj Institute of Learning”, an institute run by an NGO. It also witnessed the launch of the 21st chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in India and concluded with an exhilarating two-hour non-stop performance by the famous Rock Band “FARIDKOT” – winners of the launch pad War of Bands on Channel [V].
|The annual youth festival URJA 2010 was celebrated with perfect zeal and zest by the students of University. 20 Universities and colleges and the myriad of students from local and outside participated in almost 40 events in three days fest in various disciplines. Two live bands and an exciting fashion show were some of the favored attractions for students besides multifaceted cultural, technical and social events and competitions this year.
