Overview

Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13) focuses on urgent climate action. It addresses the global challenge of climate change, calling for measures to mitigate its impacts, adapt to changes, and build resilience. SDG 13 emphasizes international cooperation to combat climate change and its effects, ensuring a sustainable and secure future.

Goals under the SDG are:

  • Strengthen resilience and adapt to climate-related hazards.
  • Integrate climate change measures into policies, strategies, and planning.
  • Enhance education, awareness, and capacity on climate change.
  • Mobilize $100 billion annually by 2020 for developing countries' climate needs.

Major Activities conducted/ policies implemented by UPES:

  • Through awareness campaigns and project-based learning, students are encouraged to develop eco-friendly products such as edible cutlery, which are nutritious as well as have significant potential to replace plastic menace.

  • Integrated Wastewater Reclamation Plant: UPES engages in a pilot-scale project for an integrated wastewater reclamation plant, utilizing microalgae to treat sewage water. This innovative project produces byproducts such as bio-oil, bio-gas, and bio-manure, aligning with sustainable industrial practices and efficient resource use.
