National Conference on Advances in Material Science for Energy Applications

This National Conference on Advances in Material Science for Energy Applications (AMSEA- 2014) was organized on 9th and 10th January 2014 at UPES Bidholi Campus, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Sponsored by LANCO Group, Department of Science and Technology GOI, Aimil Limited, Sinsil International, Mittal Enterprises, CSIR-Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, and Allahabad Bank, this conference witnessed 11 distinguished speakers and 51 delegates from various academic and research institutions across the country presented their paper either in oral session or in poster sessions.

The deliberations covered rich and informative discussions around contemporary research, covering several aspects of material science whether it is synthesis and characterization of materials or modification of materials for different energy applications, etc. The Chief Guest of the Inaugural session was Sri Dinesh Agrawal, Cabinet Minister, Government of Uttarakhand. Dr. S. K. Bhattacharyya, Director, CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee was the Guest of Honor for inaugural session.

13th Oil & Gas HR Round Table

The 13th Oil & Gas HR Round Table provided just the right platform for the oil and gas HR professionals to focus on examining the issues of retaining and repositioning the oil and gas sector as an attractive talent destination and develop an action plan and the way forward.

The 13th Oil & Gas HR Round Table was held on Thursday 21st August at Hotel Taj Lands in Mumbai. A day-long affair, the discussions revolved around the main theme of the conference, "Repositioning Oil & Gas Industry as an Attractive Talent Destination".

A formal yet relaxed, participatory gathering where presentations were organized with a strong focus on discussing various means and ways of making the O&G industry an attractive sector to work in across HR minded people. There were over 150 attendees. The conference saw many firsts including, strength of the Steering committee touched an all-time high and 9 senior HR professionals representing major O&G companies, like HPCL, BPCL. Reliance, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Essar Oil, Engineers India and Shell. Mr. Sidharath Tuli, Vice President & Head (HR), Hydrocarbon IC. L&T Ltd., was the program director.

1st Aerospace HR Round Table

The inaugural edition of the Aerospace HR Round Table conference took place on Saturday, the February 22, 2014 at the prestigious Leela Palace Hotel at Bengaluru on the theme “Challenges & Opportunities for Talent Management in Aerospace Industry”. The roundtable focused on the human resource, training & education challenges in the Indian aerospace industry and the way forward. The roundtable was spread over five distinct sessions, including a thought provoking CEO panel discussion. The Table witness 45 Companies, 6 CEOs, 100+ Delegates. The 1st Aerospace HR Round Table was welcomed with open arms by the industry, which is one of the fastest-growing aerospace markets in the world, and is striving to meet its human resource challenges to create a unique place for itself.

The Opening Address ‘The year that was’ was delivered by Dr. Vivek Lall, President & CEO, New Venture, Reliance Industries Ltd. and Mr R.K. Tyagi, Chairman, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. delivered the Keynote Address.

'Innovate India 2014' hosted by UPES

UPES hosted 'Innovate India 2014’ on Campus in association with Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun. The “Innovate India – 2014”, an annual event organized by the National Research and Development Council (NRDC), New Delhi and supported by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), Govt. of India. 'Innovate India 2014' is in sequence to the NRDC's regular event that goes simultaneously with the Meritorious Invention Awards Ceremony of NRDC, along with a brainstorming conference. The conference aims to provide a forum to academia, industries and government to share their experience and exchange ideas on latest technological innovations and developments. A total of 387 participants including 204 Delegates and 183 Students were present during the two day event.

Padma Vibhushan Dr. R Chidambaram (Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India) was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Session of the event during which the Shields, Cash Awards and Certificates were presented to the Top Innovators across the country. Dr. R S Tolia (IAS, Retd. Former Chief Secretary, Govt. of Uttarakhand) was chief guest of the Valedictory Session and he presented the awards to the Winners of the Model and Poster Competition.

The two day event spawned with presentations and seminars from the award winners and eminent personalities in the area of science and technology. UCOST along with UPES had also organized a Model/Poster Competition to motivate young minds for displaying their work on various facets of Science and Technology. 22 Models and 33 Posters were presented during the competition and the Top five models and posters were presented with Cash Awards, Gifts and Certificates. On the second day of the event, 17 distinguished experts presented their talks on various nodes of Innovation and Development. The goal of the event was to promote innovation ecosystem in the country. UPES students brought laurels by winning a number of awards at this Model/Poster Competition.


International Conference On Management Of Infrastructure(ICMI) February 14-15,2014

International Conference on Management of Infrastructure (ICMI) received a tremendous response. This year, ICMI 2014 provided an interdisciplinary forum for discussions, debates and dissemination of information about the newer ways of managing, mitigating and regulating the erring challenges in ever-changing infrastructure sector. The aim of this conference was also to bring together thought leaders from academics and corporate to deliberate issues confronted by the infrastructure sector.

The conference revolved around the theme:

 A total of 181 papers were presented by various scholars, experts and students from across the globe. Most of these research articles were directly aligned with the theme of conference i.e. Energy, Infrastructure & Transportation (EIT). A panel of experts evaluated main research papers on the domain areas of Energy, Infrastructure & Transportation (EIT).

Bhujang, ED-HR Airport Authority of India, Mr. B.S.Negi, Former member PNGRB, Mr. Sushant Chatterjee, CERC, Mr. Akhil Mehrotra, British Gas and Mr. Narendra Kumar, MD-IGL, Prof. Dr. Lars D. Wellejus from University of Applied Sciences, Frankfurt, Germany, Mr. Dinesh Kumar, ED – Training, Indian Aviation Academy, AAI graced the occasion with their presence.


UPES Conference

3rd International Conference MAG/I/C – 2014

UPES Centre for Professional Communication organized its fourth successful conference in a row after its first National Conference in the year 2010. This conference attracted around 144 abstracts from all over. After going through stringent review process, around 67 papers of great intellectual & academic value were presented. The conference saw Mr Gordon Lewis, Vice President (Languages), Laureate International Universities, USA as its chief guest. Two more renowned personalities from academia viz. Prof. Shreesh C. Chaudhary, Professor of Linguistics, IIT Madras and Prof. Manorama Trikha, Professor of English (Retd), CCS University Meerut, also shared their intellectual insights & experience with delegates during the two-day conference. The intellectual deliberations and meaningful exchange of ideas along with panel discussion encouraged the participants to contribute towards the success of the conference. The enormity of the theme of the conference allowed not only the key note speakers but also the participants to share their innovative ideas on various topics related to the contemporary trends popular in English Language teaching.

The Centre for Professional Communication published the conference proceedings (with ISBN No.) of the last year’s selected papers and is proud to release its 2nd edition of the conference proceedings (with ISBN No. 978-93-84935-21-4) of MAG/I/C 2014.

Aviation Security: Current Threats and Challenges As part of ongoing EU-India Institutional Capacity Building-Aviation Diploma project funded by the Delegation of European Union to India

The Second conference on the theme “Aviation Security: Current Threats and Challenges As part of ongoing EU-India Institutional Capacity Building-Aviation Diploma project funded by the Delegation of European Union to India, Centre for Aviation Studies -University of Petroleum and Energy Studies along with University of Applied Sciences, Frankfurt (FH FFM) successfully organized the second conference on the theme “Aviation Security: Current Threats and Challenges” on 31 st January 2014 at The Leela Palace Hotel Mumbai .

In the opening address of the conference Captain Sanjay Karve, Director Civil Aviation, Government of Maharashtra, deliberated that human has been the key threat to aviation security. He stressed the importance of engaging human in order to reduce the current threats to security of aviation.

The conference was also addressed by H.E. Joao Cravinho, Ambassador of the European Union to India. Addressing the delegates H.E. Cravinho said “European Union is committed to strengthen the development of Indian aviation. In order to develop aviation it is very important enhance the aviation security”. He added that “European Commission is funding research programme to enhance the aviation security throughout the world”.

The event witnessed the addresses from top managers of aviation industry such as Mr. Peter Andreas Vice-president Corporate Security Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Ms. Dorothy Reimold, Assistant Director-Aviation Security at International Air Transport Association (IATA), Mr. Manoj Singh, Vice President-Cargo at Mumbai International Airport (P) Limited, Mr. David Mann, Aviation Security Manager-Asia Pacific & Middle East at Lufthansa Cargo and Mr. Kapil Kaul, CEO-South Asia, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA).
