UPES to host the 3rd edition of HR Round Table conference on Business Analytics

After two successful editions,

#UPES is hosting its 3rd edition of #hr Round Table conference on #business Analytics on 24th Feburary 2017. The theme of the conference is “ Rise of Algorithm Economy : Analytics for competitive advantage.”  The Program Director for the conference is Mr. Sameer Dhanrajani, Business Leader, Cognizant Analytics & Data Science Cognizant Technology Solutions. Mr. Dhanrajani is considered amongst the top 10 analytics gurus of the nation.

The  keynote address is expected to be delivered by Mr Dhanrajani to set the tone for the discussion. The conference would provide a platform to have fruitful discussions around  various topics covering advancement in analytics, driving innovation and transformation within business, automation  as redefining  the new technology  landscape and much more. The upcoming Meet in this series is the 3rd Business Analytics Conclave which is scheduled on 24th February 2017 in Bengaluru. Best Training Institute Award to UPES

We are proud to have one more feather added in the crown.  The Port and Shipping Management program at UPES has become instrumental in earning the “Best Training Institute Award, at international SHIPTEK conference which was held in Dubai on 29th May 2016. upes port and shipping course award Much excited research scholar, of UPES Ms Leena  Wanganoo, received this prestigious award on behalf of the University. Ms Leena is based in Dubai and doing her PhD research with UPES.

International Conference on Management of Infrastructure at UPES Dehradun

International Conference of Management of Infrastructure (ICMI) – the annual flagship conference of College of Management and Economics Studies (CoMES), University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) Dehradun – a leading B School Annual Conference in the area of Infrastructure and core sector –took off on Feb 6th at Dehradun.

A constellation of eminent industry scholars and  academicians  congregated  at the Doon valley  campus of CoMES, UPES at Kandoli  to attend the 3rd ICMI.  While the previous two years the focuICMIs of ICMI was on Energy, this time it was on Transportation Infrastructure. Sharing this information, Dean  of CoMES, UPES, Dr Anirban Sengupta  said  that – “We are very happy to share with you that Dr OP Agarwal, Executive Director, Indian School of Business (ISB) Mohali has cosudip Sural Crisilnsented to deliver the inaugural address on February 6 – and   Cherian Thomas, CEO IDFC Foundation, IDFC will deliver the valedictory speech on the 7th.”

Importance of Power Trading in India- Consumers Perspective lecture delivered

Mr. Mahendra Kumar, an Electrical Engineer from IIT, Roorkee with more than 40 years’ experience in power sector delivered a lecture on Campus on 26th August, 2014.

Importance of Power Trading in India- Consumers Perspective was explained to the students of UPES MBA Energy Trading and Power Management. Mr Kumar informed about the importance of Power Trading in India which also included the regulatory framework and concluded with the issues related to the power trading market.

UPES ET students addressed by Mr MahendraMr Kumar has been superannuated from the post of Chief Executive Officer from Reliance Energy Trading Limited. Prior to joining Reliance Group, he was Director (Business Development) in PTC (India) Ltd. He has also been earlier on the Board of State Power Utilities in the States of Orissa and Uttrakhand.

A formal yet relaxed, participatory gathering with a strong focus on discussing various means and ways of making the Oil & Gas industry an attractive sector to work in across HR minded people saw participation of over 150 attendees at the 13th Oil & Gas HR Round Table. The feedback from participants, both via formal discussions and from anecdotal conversations on the day, indicated a very high level of satisfaction with the event.

  • Strength of the Steering committee touched an all-time high. 9 senior HR professionals representing

major Oil & Gas companies, like HPCL, BPCL. Reliance, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Essar Oil, Engineers

India and Shell.

  • Mr. Sidharath Tuli, Vice President & Head (HR), Hydrocarbon IC. L&T Ltd., was the program director.

Event Report – 13th Oil & Gas HR Round Table, August 21, 2014, Mumbai

  • Three steering committee meetings took place in the months of April, June & July respectively with

over 50% attendance by the members, either in person or through video conference. It is the steering

committee that deliberates and decides on a particular topic for the year, and the subsequent

sessions and the sub-sessions, and also the potential resource person for each session.

  • Active role played by the program support team headed by Dr. Nikhil Kulshreshtha, HOD (HR), UPES.


UPES provided the academic backup with Dr. Nikhil Kulshreshtha got to interview the steering

committee members for their further inputs on the topic chosen. These interviews helped in not only

preparing the background paper but also deciding on the topics for four specific sessions in the

daylong event.

  • As many as 8 CEOs participated to deliberate on their perspective of the chosen topic, representing

  • Consistent attendance of around 100 through the day, normally had 40-50 in the past.
  • All 8 CEOs interviewed by Ms. Usha Nath giving their views about UPES, and industry on the whole.
  • First time, the total organization of the event from beginning to end was handled by Mr. Vijay Pahwa

& Mr. Vikas Narula under the guidance of Dr. Parag Diwan and support of senior colleagues from the

Career Services Team.

UPESMET 3 (ONLINE Management Entrance Test) is an ONLINE MBA entrance test organized by University of Petroleum and Energy Studies -UPES, Dehradun for admission to its 10 specialized MBA programs in the high growth sectors of Oil & Gas, Power, Energy, Infrastructure, Aviation, Port & Shipping, Logistics & Supply Chain, Business Analytics and International Business.

UPESMET 3 is a completely online exam which the students can take from any location in India, provided they have a laptop/desktop with a webcam and an internet connection. The exam will be conducted on 3 days with 3 exam slots each for every day.
