The Aerospace Engineering program was started with an objective to create industry – ready professionals by training students in wide variety of areas involving aeronautical, avionics and space technology. Program is nourished with experienced faculty from nationally recognized institutions and foreign universities. There is a dedicated Research Center with high performance computational facilities. 

The Aerospace Engineering is combination of Aeronautical Engineering and Space Technology. Aeronautical Engineering has sub domains like, Aerodynamics, Flight Mechanics, Structures and propulsion. Also, application-orientated courses such as Aircraft Design, Helicopter Engineering, Rockets and Missiles, etc. are taught.   

Structures specialization includes courses like Aircraft Structures I & II, Aeroelasticity, Composites. 

As new aircrafts are being manufactured with composite structures to reduce their weight. There are two main activities in this course. The first is lectures which emphasize the fundamentals of structural mechanics and analytical approaches for analysis and design of aircraft structures. 

Academic Framework

The foundation of higher learning at UPES since its inception has been to explore and promote areas of learning that are innovative and future focused. This has led to constant evolution in facilitating creative and collaborative learning engagements for students through realignment of curriculum and exploration of virtual tools, and open-source courseware; thereby creating borderless learning and access to limitless information.

The new curriculum framework at UPES, ABLE (Academic Blueprint for Learning Excellence) is holistic in its overall structure and yet focuses on the individual need of the student to discover, experience, explore and challenge. The learning is segmented into core subject studies, core specialism studies, minors/exploratory subjects, and signature and life skills learning. The latter three are offered by the newly-instituted School for Life.

SFL (School for Life) is an intrinsic part of the composite UPES student experience and facilitates learning and education that is a balance between what students want, and what is needed of them as future global citizens and leaders of tomorrow. With courses designed to equip students with lifelong learning skills, a focus on a wide range of contemporary issues, and a mandatory social and professional internship experience that is unique, UPES believes in igniting to inspire the best version within an individual to better the world.

The department has continually enriched itself with undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various domains ever since starting B. Tech Aerospace Engineering in year 2006.  Department has faculty member with expertise in respective disciplines to enrich fundamentals of the learners. Laboratory facilities are equally enriched to cater respective disciplines for imparting practical exposure. The Classroom audio-video aids, Industrial tours, training, guest lecture and events   provide real-life learning environment for the learners. The department has marked its footprints at national as well as international level by winning many laurels 

The department has got a student capacity of around 350 students in graduate and post graduate programs with a handful of Doctoral Research Fellows. The Department is highly known for its knowledge building and winning accolades in wide range of national and international student competitions. Annual CANSAT Competition (USA), SAE International Competition (USA) and Experimental Sounding Rocket Competition(USA)  are to name a few. The Department is funded with research projects from Directorate of Science and Technology (DST) in the areas of Parachute Aerial Vehicle (PAV) dynamics and Autonomous Control. The Department has MoUs with many of the National Aerospace Industry and academia for graduate student training and possible placement. The Department has International collaborations with University of Toulouse, University of Orléans, Polytech Nantes and University De Nantes in  France for  student exchange program.

The curricula for the program have been framed in consultation with industry, academia, alumni and parents to make the students industry ready on graduation.

# Upto 20% seats shall be filled through the non-exam category (10% through JEE Mains and 10% through Board Merit). In case of seats following vacant in this category; UPES has the right to fill these through UPES Examination. University also reserves the right to conduct further CBT / Pen Paper / Online tests for admission
