The B. Tech. Applied Petroleum Engineering Upstream Spl in Specialization in Digital oilfield training is the panacea for intricacies of today’s oilfield business. There is scarcity of digitally trained workforce in E & P sector, which is major roadblock in the adoption of digitalization in the oil and gas industry.

Keeping this in mind, UPES offers digital oil field specialization to B Tech students of petroleum engineering. Digital oilfield concept blends business process management with digital technologies for workflow automation, productivity maximization, and cost reduction, resulting in O&G operation risk minimization.

A thorough implementation of digital oilfield can aid E&P as well as service companies enhance operational efficiency, production optimization, data integration, teamwork, and workflow automation. Furthermore, productivity gains can be achieved through enriched understanding of the subsurface, long-distance monitoring of drilling and completion operations, and logistics optimization.

Academic Framework

The foundation of higher learning at UPES since its inception has been to explore and promote areas of learning that are innovative and future focused. This has led to constant evolution in facilitating creative and collaborative learning engagements for students through realignment of curriculum and exploration of virtual tools, and open-source courseware; thereby creating borderless learning and access to limitless information.

The new curriculum framework at UPES, ABLE (Academic Blueprint for Learning Excellence) is holistic in its overall structure and yet focuses on the individual need of the student to discover, experience, explore and challenge. The learning is segmented into core subject studies, core specialism studies, minors/exploratory subjects, and signature and life skills learning. The latter three are offered by the newly-instituted School for Life.

SFL (School for Life) is an intrinsic part of the composite UPES student experience and facilitates learning and education that is a balance between what students want, and what is needed of them as future global citizens and leaders of tomorrow. With courses designed to equip students with lifelong learning skills, a focus on a wide range of contemporary issues, and a mandatory social and professional internship experience that is unique, UPES believes in igniting to inspire the best version within an individual to better the world.

PSO1

To learn various hydrocarbon exploration methods, hydrocarbon source and cap rock characterization techniques, field surveying and mapping the surface and sub-surface features to help finalize a pilot plan for exploration drilling.

PSO2

To learn various types of drilling rigs and its components such as power systems, fluid circulation systems, well control systems, well monitoring systems, rotary systems, hoisting, drill string assemblies, cementation, directional drilling, and the economics for finalizing a drilling plan.

PSO3

To learn various reservoir-well completions, methods of lifting hydrocarbon and other wellbore fluids to the surface by reservoir energy and/or artificial means, maintain efficient well production, stimulate reservoir, and design surface facilities required for oil and gas separation and preliminary processing and transportation.

PSO4

To characterize and model conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs to estimate both the reserves and the production potential under natural and improved recovery methods for optimum development of a field
