School of Business, UPES, conducts Faculty Development Programme 

School of Business, UPES, recently held a week-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Research Methodology. The FDP was attended by 212 participants, including academicians from national and international universities and corporate professionals.  

Dr. Githa Heggde, Dean, School of Business, UPES, was the Patron, Dr. Prayas Sharma, Senior Assistant Professor, the host, Dr. Tarun Dhingra, Assistant Dean-Research, UPES, the Convener, and Dr. Prayas Sharma, Dr. P.C. Bahuguna and Dr. Binod Kumar Singh were the Co-Convenors for the FDP.        

Dr. Tarun Dhingra, explained the diamond model for engaged scholarship which included Research Design, Theory Building, Problem Formulation and Problem Solving. Furthermore, he discussed on how a research proposal can be evaluated under the domains of relevance, validity, truth, impact and coherence. He also shed light on Ronal Giere’s Model of a scientific episode. He explained different school of thoughts and compared the characteristics of Logical Positivism, Relativism, Pragmatism and Realism. 

Dr. Narendra K Sharma, Professor at Department of Industrial & Management Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, conducted the session on Identification of Research Problem (RP). The session gave a detailed picture on research problem, how to put the RP in respective to research process, criteria for RP statement, list of sources for RP identification.  

Dr. Cyril Foropon, Full Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management, and the Director of Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) Programs at Montpellier Business School (MBS), spoke about the objectives of literature review and content of a good doctoral thesis. He emphasised on the fact that literature review is a continuous process which should be done several times during the research. Dr. Foropon shared some interesting research proposal examples and elaborated Systematic Literature Review and Bibliometric Literature Review.

Joji Rao, Professor, SOB, UPES; Dr. Neeraj Anand, Professor and HOD-Department of Transportation Management, SOB.
