Gambian Minister of Petroleum and Energy Hon Minister Fafa Sanyang along with Her Excellency
Gambian High Commissioner Jainaba Jagne and the Finance Attaché of the Gambian High
Commission paid a visit to UPES to discuss opportunities of multilateral and bilateral cooperation for
mutual benefit. Discussions included taking UPES assistance and expertise for capacity building in
their Petroleum Ministry for their officials and also creating special training sessions for their Oil &
Gas workforce. In addition, mentoring of their new Technical University which is being newly
founded in 2020 to meet the industrial needs of their nation. UPES will be one of the international
multilateral stakeholders in this mentoring along with University of Helsinki in Finland. Though
several universities in India were approached for collaboration, UPES has been chosen as the
primary university for collaboration at their national level. Currently 7 Gambian students study at
exchange programs at UPES and several fulltime students through a series of Gambian and UPEs
scholarships are expected to join next academic year. UPES will continue to be a global player in
enhancing global academic solidarity and cooperation across the world through various stakeholders
with its international activities.
