Interactive Session with Anand Kumar

Interactive Session with Anand Kumar

Anand Kumar, famous for his Super 30 school, was the guest speaker at an interactive session held in Kota on February 16, 2020. Regarded as one of the most insightful and powerful educators in India, Anand shared his thoughts on UPES Engineering +. Addressing around 700 attendees at Country Inn and Suites by Radisson, Kota, the session was about decoding mantras for success in Engineering.

Anand Kumar said, “Innovation is the modification of existing technology. It is important that everybody understands the depth of technology and its end-to-end utility so that it can be further modified and something better can be created.” He further said that real-life application of studies from the initial stage is very important. Only rote learning will not help. It’s only when students will start applying their knowledge to real-life situations, innovation will happen.

Under Engineering +, UPES School of Engineering is offering additional specialization programs in latest technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Self Driven Vehicle, Internet of Things, Data Analytics and Blockchain. A knowledge of these subjects is essential for today's engineer as the use of these technologies has become ubiquitous. School of Engineering students, irrespective of their areas of specialization, will be able to undertake an additional degree in any of these topics, along with their B.Tech degree program. This add-on will allow students to become more diverse and broaden their skill set, enabling them to adapt and contribute in an era dominated by constant disruption, thereby improving their job prospects.

Today, engineering students must keep up with the ever-evolving technology ecosystem as well as be adept in management practices. However, only a handful of students who graduate every year possess new-age technical skills. UPES School of Engineering is also initiating a Diploma in Business Management program for its under-graduate students. This course would be undertaken by the interested students along with their B. Tech program and would provide the students with basic and fundamental skills of management.
Speaking about the initiative, Anand Kumar said, “I can surely say that any student studying from this university has a bright future.  Only need for the student is to work hard. The university is also providing an additional business diploma to engineering students which is even better because at the end you have to enter the market and understand your customers. It’s not necessary that only to sell something to need to know the market, even to innovate you need to have a good understanding of the market, so the business diploma is going to be highly beneficial.”

Anand Kumar concluded by saying that Engineering+ will incentivise innovation, promote an interdisciplinary approach to engineering, foster a global culture, and empower students to understand markets and customers before they step out into the corporate world.
