The UPES FIPI Student Chapter hosted the e-version of the annual technical colloquium JIGYASA 2021 centred on the theme “Remapping Energy Sector: Sustainability & Future Prospects” from 1st to 3rd April 2021.
The Inauguration Ceremony of the three-day-long fest was honoured by the presence of various industrial delegates from all over the world. The ceremony commenced with the Opening Remarks by Dr. Mandira Agarwal, the Faculty Advisor and Professor at the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Earth Sciences, UPES and Dr. Gurvinder Singh Virk, Dean (SOE) at UPES. Following this, there were keynote sessions by Guests of Honour Dr. R.K. Malhotra (DG, FIPI), Ms. Shridevi Bale (Energy Head, Accenture), Mr. Omer Gurpinar (Technical Director-EOR, Schlumberger), Mr. Anand Laxshmivarahan (CDO, Cairn India), Mr. Dulal Halder (GM, ONGC Videsh Ltd) and Mr. Sushil Kumar (GM-CGD, GAIL), Mr. Dinesh Sharma (VP- Head of Production, Essar Oil & Gas Exploration and Production Ltd.), Mr. T.K. Sengupta (Director- E&P, FIPI) and Mr. Nirmal Shani ( Head of Asia Pacific, CERAWeek, IHS Markit). The Chief Guest of the ceremony Dr. Anand Gupta (ADG Development, DGH) addressed the gathering with his immensely motivating words of wisdom relating to the theme. Towards the end of the Inaugural Ceremony, Dr. P.K. Painuly, Professor at the Department of Energy Management offered a vote of thanks to all the guests and participants for gracing the occasion with their solemn presence.
The UPES FIPI Student Chapter also organized a keynote session by Mr. Amit Priyadarshan, CEO & Founder of Caliche Pvt. Ltd. on the topic ‘Entrepreneurship in Upstream Oil and Gas’. The session marked a remarkable and successful ending of Day 1 of the grand technical fest JIGYASA 2021.
A workshop was conducted on the topic ‘Role of Seismic Interpretation in Hydrocarbon Exploration & Future Outlook’ conducted by Mr. Abhimanyu Maitra, Senior Geophysicist at Schlumberger. The workshop discussed the dynamics of the Energy Industry and the near future of the Global Energy Transition.
Apart from this, JIGYASA 2021 witnessed a plethora of events ranging from academic-focused quizzes to on-the-spot challenges, illuminating guest lectures to stringent paper & poster presentations and workshops. Some of the events conducted were:

Transcendence- the paper presentation event
Exigent- a case study challenge by Halliburton
Knock Down Buzz- a quizzing and extempore based team event
Geo Prognosis- a machine learning problem statement event in collaboration with Caliche Pvt. Ltd.
Fiasco Parley- a parley of case studies
Chemiquolous- a chemical event
Connaissance- a rapid-fire quiz on the specifics of the Oil & Gas Industry
Petrobid- a technical bidding event
The annual technical colloquium witnessed immense success along with a large amount of participation from both the national as well as international participants. Some key colleges who participated in the fest are Banasthali Vidyapith, PDPU, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, MIT Pune, Presidency University and the University of Nairobi.
The Felicitation Ceremony filled with vigour and enthusiasm marked the end of JIGYASA 2021 on 3rd April 2021. The ceremony was enlightened by the presence of Dr. Geeta Hegde (Dean- SOB, UPES), Mr. Nirmal Shani (Asia- Pacific Head, CERAWeek, IHS Markit) and Mr. Dinesh Sharma (Vice-President & Head- Production, Essar Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Limited). All the students who had participated in the many events with great zeal were felicitated with prizes. JIGYASA 2021 concluded with a note of providing everyone with a vast array of opportunities along with an indelible set of experiences.
