Profile Summary
Dr. Susmay Nandi earned his Ph.D. from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya, where his research focused on the analysis of Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows with heat and mass transfer, particularly studying MHD fluid flow past different geometries with various physical aspects. He has done M.Sc. in Mathematics & Computing from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and a B.Sc. (Honours) in Mathematics from the University of North Bengal. He also pursued a B.Ed. degree from the University of North Bengal.
As an Assistant Professor, Dr. Nandi imparts his expertise in subjects like Differential Equations, Engineering Mathematics II, Mathematics III, and Discrete Mathematics to undergraduate students. His research interests encompass Boundary Layer Theory, Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), Nanofluids, Hybrid Nanofluids, Heat and Mass Transfer, and Flow through different geometries.
Work Experience
Following the completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Nandi joined UPES as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics (Applied Science Cluster) within the School of Engineering.
Research Interests
Dr. Nandi's research interests revolve around Boundary Layer Theory, Magnetohydrodynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Nanofluids, Hybrid Nanofluids, and Fluid Flow through different geometries.
Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Nandi's teaching philosophy centres around creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a passion for lifelong learning. He adopts a student-centric approach that acknowledges the diverse backgrounds and learning styles of his students. By incorporating real-world examples and practical applications, he strives to promote active learning through interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and projects.
Courses Taught
Dr. Nandi teaches various mathematics courses, including Differential Equations, Engineering Mathematics II, Mathematics III, and Discrete Mathematics, to undergraduate students.
Awards and Grants
Dr. Nandi has been awarded with Institute’s Best Researcher Award by the National Institute of Technology Meghalaya in 2022 for the highest number of SCI publications during his Ph.D. period. He also received the Best Paper award at the International Conference on Mathematics and Computation in 2021 and secured 3rd prize in oral presentations at NIT Meghalaya during the 2nd Research Conclave in 2021.
Scholarly Activities
Dr. Nandi has published 21 research papers, and his work has earned him an h-index of 9 and an i10-index of 9. In addition to his research endeavours, he actively participates in various academic and organizational responsibilities. Furthermore, he has been a member of several committees, including AMC and departmental research. Dr. Nandi has also supervised undergraduate students in their minor projects and delivered invited lectures as a resource person at VIT Chennai.
