Profile Summary

Dr. Saurabh has worked on applications of the general theory of dynamics, systems, and control to a wide range of engineering problems. These include multi-body dynamics, structural dynamics, mechanism design, rotordynamics, vehicle dynamics, nonlinear vibration, and its control. He is proficient in handling nonlinear dynamics problems and skilled in multibody simulation tools like Bond Graph Modelling, MATLAB/Simulink, Sim Mechanics, and MSC Adams. Dr. Saurabh has a keen interest in working on advanced solid mechanics and has experience in solving industrial problems using finite element analysis tools such as Ansys, Hypermess, and Nastran.

Work Experience

Before joining UPES, Dr. Saurabh was a research scholar in the Systems, Dynamics, and Control lab at the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur. He has three years of experience as an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at GLA University, Mathura. After completing M Tech, Dr. Saurabh worked as an Assistant Engineer in the Structural Analysis Department at Cargotec Engineering India Pvt Ltd, Pune.

Teaching Philosophy

In the classroom, Dr. Saurabh's teaching philosophy is based on better understanding the concepts and creating interest among students to solve engineering problems using them. By providing real-life situations and a variety of problems in assignments, he helps students move from novice to expert thinking.

Courses Taught

Dr. Saurabh has taught subjects related to mechanical design, such as Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Kinematics of Machine, Dynamics of Machine, and Control Engineering under UG courses. In PG courses, he has taught Advanced Mechanism, Finite Element Method, and Advanced Solid Mechanics.

Awards and Grants

Dr. Saurabh received the Academic Excellence Award during Masters at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur. He also received the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), India scholarship for Ph.D. (2016-2022) and for M.Tech. (2009-2011).

Scholarly Activities

Dr. Saurabh discovered new types of Sommerfeld effects in rotor-dynamic systems as part of his research work. He applied his research results to test cases like asymmetric rotor shafts, truck suspension systems with universal drives, and torsional vibration resonances in z-configuration universal drives. Dr. Saurabh has considerable experience in multi-energy domain system modeling and multi-body dynamics. He is proficient in simulation tools like Symbols, MATLAB - Sim Mechanics/Simscapes, MSC - ADAMS, etc. He has seven research publications in reputed journals, all of which are SCI indexed and are in Q1 (top quartile). He also co-authored a book chapter and some conference articles, showcasing his ability to solve problems in Applied Mechanics areas.
