Sr. Associate Professor
Dr. Roushan Kumar completed his bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, Karnataka in 2006. Subsequently, he pursued his master’s degree in automotive Electronics from Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu in 2008. Driven by his passion for research, he pursued Ph.D. from UPES, Dehradun in the year 2018.
Before joining the University, Dr. Roushan Kumar gained valuable industry experience. He began his career as an intern for automotive software development at KPIT Cummins Infosystem Ltd. in Bangalore from 2007 to 2008. Following his internship, he continued working with the same organization as a Senior Software Engineer until 2010. He has published more than 30 research papers and has filed 12 Indian patents out of which 5 patents have been granted. These patents showcase his innovative thinking and practical application of his research findings.
Prof. Roushan Kumar has a diverse background in academia and industry, with expertise in automotive software development. He started his career as a senior software engineer at KPIT Cummins Infosystem Ltd. He joined UPES in 2011 and has gained valuable expertise in the field of automotive software development, mechatronics system design, and electric vehicles.
Prof. Roushan Kumar's expertise encompasses a wide range of technological areas, with a particular focus on electric vehicles, renewable energy, automotive technology, control systems, embedded systems, battery technologies, infotronics, industrial automation, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
Prof. Roushan Kumar recognizes the importance of practical applications of knowledge. He aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their chosen fields. By integrating real-world examples, case studies, and hands-on experiences into his teaching methods, he helps students bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical implementation. Prof. Roushan Kumar's teaching philosophy revolves around a multidisciplinary, student-centric approach. His goal is to empower students by enhancing their technical, management, and interpersonal skills while also fostering personal and professional growth.
Prof. Kumar has taught various courses like Mechatronics Product Design, Control System Engineering, Robotics based Industrial automation, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Control, PLC and HMI, Analog Integrated Electronics, Instrumentation and Control Systems, Emerging Automotive Technology, Electric Vehicle Technology, Measurement and Instrumentation, Automotive Electrical and Electronics, and Vehicle Infotronics. These subjects cover a diverse range of topics in the field of engineering and technology, providing students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in various areas of study.
Awards and Grants
Prof. Kumar received awards and grants from SERB, the Government of India, and UPES. Some of the prestigious grants he has received are SERB Grant for Automation Technology Drives, Solar Tree Development, Electric Cycle Installation, and Aluminium-Air Battery for EVs (Ongoing)
Prof. Roushan has done extensive work in the fields of electric mobility, battery management systems, automation technology, and vehicle Infotronics. Prof. Roushan Kumar's focus on innovation and creating a positive impact is evident in his various projects, such as educating entrepreneurs to develop products like electric bicycles, solar trees, and antilock braking systems. These initiatives not only foster knowledge exchange involving students but also contribute to the advancement of technology and sustainability in the automotive industry. He has published more than 30 research papers and filed 12 Indian patents.
