Prof (Dr) Sumeet Gupta

Prof. (Dr.) Sumeet Gupta is a renowned expert in Finance and Risk Management. His influential research focuses on areas such as Finance, Risk Management, Project Finance, Supply Chain, Infrastructure Finance, Oil and Gas Finance, Metafi, Network Security, and the Use of AI in Finance, Banking, and Financial Innovation. He has worked extensively on Corporate Valuation, Value at Risk-based risk management, credit risk, Meta finance, and Meta banking. Dr. Gupta has been actively involved with the MSME sector, contributing to its growth and gaining practical insights into application and implementation. He is a certified Risk Management expert for TCS and has provided sessions on Oil and Gas Finance and Power Finance for esteemed organizations such as HPCL, MPPKVVCL, Oil India, IOCL, RRVPNL, and Hero Motors. His expertise has also been sought by Petro Bangla Senior Executives and IIM Ranchi.

Before joining UPES, Prof. Sumeet Gupta served as an Associate Professor at IBS (ICFAI Business School) and DAV College of Management, where he also held the position of Finance Manager and acted as a consultant to TCS. With a strong focus on Finance, Risk Management, Project Finance, Supply Chain, Infrastructure Finance, Oil and Gas, and Banking, he has accumulated over 25 years of invaluable teaching, research, and industry experience. He has also served as a Subject Matter Expert in Finance and Policy Implications at the Centre for Socio-Economic and Political Research (CSEPR). Additionally, he has been appointed as an Expert Panel Member by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for assessing various research schemes.

Prof. Gupta's teaching philosophy revolves around creating a conducive learning environment that supports and encourages student growth. He incorporates elements of "flipping the classroom" by assigning pre-reading assignments, conducting simulations, industry-based case studies, and fostering creativity and innovation. He acts as a facilitator, promoting dynamic and interactive classroom discussions that stimulate curiosity and a love for learning. Prof. Gupta instills in his students the importance of lifelong learning, critical thinking, and exploring new ideas.

Prof. Gupta teaches courses such as Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances, Financing Petroleum Sector Projects, and Strategic Cost Management. In addition, he takes a macro view to examine how global exposure impacts international risk management and its outcomes. Prof. Gupta also conducts sessions on Economics and Life Cycle Concepts, Corporate Finance, Financial Analytics, and the fundamentals of Accounting and Financial Management.

Prof. Gupta has received various accolades, including the Best Paper Award, Best Teaching Award, and Best Teacher in Finance at DAV College. He has been appointed as an Expert Panel Member by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to assess research schemes. He holds certifications as a Certified Professional Forensic Accountant from The Institute of Certified Forensic Accountants, Certified Business Administrator from Canada, Fellow Financial Planner from the UK, and Fellow Financial Consultant from the USA. Tata Consultancy Services Limited has recognized Dr. Gupta as a Subject Matter Expert Panel Member for consulting on Risk Management.

Prof. Gupta has led multidisciplinary teams in collaborative projects to understand the financial behaviour of ecosystems and deliver training and development. He is committed to socio-economic research in sectors such as agriculture, rural development, livelihood, health, education, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) to strengthen social and economic research. He also works on Meta finance, Energy Finance, AI and Chatbots, Analytics and Data, Financial advocacy and awareness, education and training, project management, and capacity building for governments, investors, corporates, humanitarian organizations, and consulting bodies. Several patents related to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Recommender Systems, and Risk Management have been published and listed in The Patent Office Journal.
