His work encompasses topics such as optical flow, disparity, object detection and tracking, orthogonal image moments, image encryption algorithms, image watermarking, digital signal processing, and more. Furthermore, he has actively participated in numerous conferences, workshops, seminars, symposiums, and short-term courses to expand his knowledge and engage with the academic community.

Work Experience

Dr. Kumar is currently working as an Assistant Professor-Selection Grade in the School of Computer Science. Prior to joining computer science, he was an Assistant Professor- Senior Scale (2015-2018), and Assistant Professor- Selection Grade (2018-2023) in the Department of Mathematics at the UPES. Before joining UPES, Dr. Kumar was a postdoctoral scholar and researcher at the University of Udine in Italy. During his time there, he made substantial contributions to the field of image processing. Dr. Kumar is able to give outstanding instruction of his extensive knowledge in the fields of mathematics and computer science.

Research Interests

Dr. Kumar’s research interests lie in the fields of Applied Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Optimization Techniques, Mathematical Statistics, Computer Science, Image and Video Processing, and Computer Vision. Dr. Kumar has published numerous papers in reputable journals and conferences, highlighting his expertise in these areas. He holds a Ph.D. in Image Processing from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and has a strong academic background. He has also actively participated in conferences, workshops, and short-term courses, further enhancing his knowledge and skills.

Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Kumar's approach to the classroom is focused on making learning interesting and entertaining for his students. Dr. Kumar believes in encouraging students to participate in class discussions and assigning meaningful assignments. Dr. Kumar emphasizes the need of creating a classroom environment that fosters free conversation and encourages students to challenge traditional knowledge. Dr. Kumar believes in a more balanced education that incorporates both theory and practice. Dr. Kumar's objective as a teacher is to inspire in students a lifelong love of learning and to provide them with the tools they need to succeed in their academic and professional endeavours.

Courses Taught

Dr. Kumar has extensive experience instructing a wide variety of maths courses. Mathematics I, Mathematics II, Mathematics III, Numerical Methods, Discrete Mathematics, Discrete Mathematical Structures, Graph Theory, Real Analysis, and Optimization Techniques are just a few of the courses he's instructed. Whenever possible, Dr. Kumar incorporates real-world examples into his lectures. He achieves this by encouraging student participation in class discussions and by assigning problem-solving tasks. His teaching style encourages inquisitiveness, fosters the development of students' conceptual knowledge, and prepares them for careers or advanced study in mathematics and related fields.

Awards and Grants

Dr. Kumar has been awarded the prestigious Best Paper Award and Young Scientist Award at the 2nd International Conference on Networks and Cryptology (NETCRYPT) in 2020. These accolades highlight Dr. Kumar's outstanding contributions to the field and further validate his expertise and commitment to advancing knowledge.

Scholarly Activities

Dr. Kumar has published 23 research papers and has an h-index of 6. In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Kumar has been actively involved in various academic and organizational responsibilities. He has served as the Course Coordinator of various subjects and mentor for UG students. He also worked as a team leader in various committees such as common class tests, faculty load distribution, and departmental research. Dr. Kumar has supervised undergraduate students for their minor projects. Dr. Kumar has also published conference proceedings and is guiding Ph.D. students.
