Dr. Abhinav Sharma earned his B. Tech. degree from H. N. B. Garhwal University, Srinagar, India, in 2009, and subsequently completed his M. Tech. and Ph. D. from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar, India, in 2011 and 2016, respectively. With 12 years of comprehensive teaching and research experience, he has authored 40 research papers in SCI/Scopus-indexed journals and conferences. Additionally, he has published six books as an author and editor, collaborating with renowned international publishers such as CRC Press, De Gruyter, and IEEE River Publisher from the USA, Germany, and Denmark. Dr. Sharma's contributions also include five Indian Patents, and he actively engages in delivering e-talks and technical sessions on the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in engineering.

Work Experience

Prior to joining UPES, Dr. Abhinav Sharma pursued his Ph. D. at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pant Nagar. Preceding his doctoral program, he served as an Assistant Professor at Bipin Tripathi Kumaon Institute of Technology, Dwarahat, for one and a half years.

Dr. Abhinav Sharma's research interests encompass Signal Processing, Communication, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Swarm Intelligence.

Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Abhinav Sharma's teaching philosophy revolves around facilitating students' understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of core engineering subjects. He emphasizes delivering course content using real-world examples to help students relate fundamental concepts of core subjects with state-of-the-art technology. In his teaching approach, he also incorporates software tools such as MATLAB and Python, enabling students to better analyse real-world engineering problems.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Abhinav Sharma has taught a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. These include Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Signal & Systems, Computer Networks, Analog and Digital Communication, Microprocessors, and Embedded Systems. Additionally, he instructs cutting-edge computer-oriented courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and Soft Computing Techniques.

Awards and Grants

Dr. Abhinav Sharma has received the Award of Excellence in Research from UPES in 2018. He holds the title of star researcher of the cluster for the consecutive years of 2021 and 2022. Additionally, he serves as the Co-PI of the Seed Money Project titled "Precision Agriculture," granted by UPES. His publications feature in prestigious journals such as IEEE, Taylor & Francis, Elsevier, Springer, Emerald, and many other national and international journals and conferences.

Scholarly Activities

Engaging in scholarly activities, Dr. Abhinav Sharma actively guides various multidisciplinary projects at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His focus lies in guiding research scholars in applying artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms in diverse fields of electrical and electronics engineering. Presently, his team of research scholars is working on developing novel and hybrid swarm intelligence algorithms for antenna array pattern synthesis and solar parameter estimation problems. Furthermore, they are exploring machine learning algorithms for non-cooperative target recognition using RCS data, as well as computer vision applications in biomedical engineering and precision agriculture.
