Devaleena completed her doctoral research in English Literature from The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. She was a recipient of the Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowship in 2016 during which she was affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley. She was also a Visiting Scholar at the university’s Center for Science, Technology, Medicine & Society (CSTMS). Prior to joining UPES, Devaleena worked as an Assistant Professor at Christ University, Bangalore, where she handled papers on cultural studies, literary theory, and popular culture. She often finds herself navigating the domains of vampirism, eschatology, and cultural criminology. She is particularly interested in the field of popular cultural representations of gore and gothic horror. In her current research, she is examining how forensic dramas have come to dominate contemporary popular culture. Apart from her academic interests, which she admits can be morbid, Devaleena likes to experiment with acrylic on canvas.
