A research project by UPES faculty from School of Business titled ‘Outreach Activities to Promote Scientific Temper regarding Sustainable Development among School Students of SC/ST community in Chakrata, Tyuni and Kalsi Tehsils of Uttarakhand’ received sanction from DST, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The principal investigator of the project is Dr. B.K. Chaturvedi, along with Dr. Atri Nautiyal and Dr. M. Yaqoot, as co-investigator.
The proposed project aims to conduct science communication workshops focused on demonstration (including hands on activities) of sustainable development concepts (energy, water and environmental conservation techniques) in 15 schools of Chakrata Tehsil of Uttarakhand.
The target group is 6th to 12th grade students (primarily SC/ST students) of government and government aided schools. In this project, remote government schools (including government aided schools) have been targeted as the students in these schools generally lack access to modern age information. Direct beneficiaries will be about 1,000 students in 15 Government and Government Aided schools in the selected region. While indirect beneficiaries are estimated to be around 4,000, as students discuss the learned concepts with their family members. The project will in turn also lead to promotion of energy, water and environmental conservation techniques among the SC/ST population in remote areas of Uttarakhand.
As Government of India is strongly committed to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through energy, water and environmental conservation, the proposed project will also contribute to the national goal of sustainable development.
