Profile Summary

Dr. Deepa Rani is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science, UPES Dehradun. Previously served as a Teaching Faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Scientific Computing, NIT Hamirpur. She has done her Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science and Engineering, from NIT Hamirpur, under the supervision of Dr. Rajeev Kumar. Her research interests include Cyber Security, Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning, Smart Healthcare, Wireless Networks, and Computer Networks.

Work Experience

Dr. Deepa Rani has recently joined the faculty at UPES. Prior to this, she worked as a Teaching Faculty in the Dept. of Mathematics and Scientific Computing, NIT Hamirpur. Also, during her Mater and PhD, for more than 5 years, she served as a Teaching Assistant in the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Hamirpur and performed task and duties like taking labs, checking assignments, assisting to supervisor by mentoring students and interns under the supervisor.

Research Interests

Dr. Deepa Rani is interested in Wireless Networks, Internet of Things, Machine Learning, Blockchain, and Network Security.  Specifically, she focused on several areas within IoT applications, including the optimization of network performance through the development of delay-efficient data collection paths using fuzzy logic and overlapped clusters. In order to enhance the security features of IoT systems, Intrusion Detection Systems by using Machine Learning. Blockchain and IPFS for creating decentralized architectures, cost-effective and distributed solutions for storing and sharing sensitive data, smart contracts for managing access permission, along with cryptography to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of data in IoT applications such as healthcare.

Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Deepa Rani has belief in traditional method of but beyond the traditional teaching methodologies, she believes in incorporating students' perspectives and adapting to their learning styles. Feedback and suggestions play a crucial role in refining the teaching process. To enhance engagement, she focuses on interactive and solution-oriented lectures, breaking long sessions into smaller, more manageable segments. She also encourages students to explore assigned topics independently and present their insights by integrating additional content from books and research articles, fostering a deeper understanding and critical thinking.

  • Published impactful research papers in reputed journals of Scopus, Web of Science and SCI/ESCI, focusing on optimization of Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning based smart healthcare applications.
  • Presented findings at multiple international conferences highlighting specifically to enhance data reliability, prevent cyber threats, and predict pregnancy-related risk for proactive and reliable maternal care.
  • Mentored undergraduate, postgraduate students and interns in their research work, including applying ensemble approach and genetic algorithm in Machine learning to predict risk in pregnancy.
  • Served as a peer reviewer for scientific journals like Internet of Things (IoT) Elsevier, SN Computer Science (Springer Nature), and many other Conference papers, ensuring quality in research publications.
