Karan Kumar Choudhary is an Assistant Professor of Law at the School of Law, UPES Dehradun. He holds an LL.M. with specialization in Constitutional and Administrative Law from Chanakya National Law University, Patna and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. from H.P. National Law University, Shimla. His doctoral research focuses on the socio-legal and fiscal implications of alcohol prohibition in Bihar.

His areas of interest include Criminal law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Property Law, and Public Policy.

He actively engages in academic research and has presented papers at various national and international conferences. He has also participated in several capacity-building workshops, including a recent one on AI-Driven Research and Qualitative Data Analysis. 

Work Experience

Karan Kumar Choudhary has served as Assistant Professor of Law at JIMS School of Law, affiliated to GGSIPU, New Delhi from August 2023 to April 2025, teaching subjects like Administrative Law and Criminal Law. He also coordinated internships, placements, and newsletters. Prior to this, he worked as a Legal Consultant with the Department of Excise and Prohibition, Government of Bihar, assisting in prosecution and legal drafting under the Bihar Prohibition Act. 

Research Interests

Karan Kumar Choudhary’s research interests lie in Constitutional Law, Criminal Justice Reforms, Public Policy, and Socio-Legal Studies. He is particularly focused on the legal and societal impact of prohibition laws, administrative governance, and emerging intersections of law with technology and ethics in contemporary India. 

Teaching Philosophy

Mr. Choudhary’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that legal education should empower students to think critically, act ethically, and engage meaningfully with society. He strives to create an inclusive and interactive classroom environment that encourages dialogue, curiosity, and analytical reasoning. By blending doctrinal clarity with practical insights, he aimsto bridge the gap between theory and application. He incorporates case-based learning, contemporary developments, and interdisciplinary perspectives to make legal concepts more relatable and impactful. He believes in mentoring students not just academically but also in their professional and personal growth, nurturing them to become responsible and reflective legal professionals.

Karan Kumar Choudhary has taught a variety of core and specialized law subjects including Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Transfer of Property Law, Law of Crimes-I, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (Code of Criminal Procedure), and Law of Limitation. His teaching integrates doctrinal foundations with case law, legislative updates, and practical insights. He emphasizes critical thinking, legal research, and ethical reasoning through classroom discussions, assignments, and interactive learning.
