Profile Summary
Dr. Sudeshna Das was awarded PhD in area of Positive Psychology and Post Traumatic Growth applying Qualitative Methodology from University of Calcutta, Kolkata. Her doctoral thesis addressed the complexities as well as growth aftermath of traumatic experiences in one’s childhood namely having lived experiences of childhood sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse and invalidation and orphanhood.
Her academic training lies in Clinical Psychology where she did her M. Phil and is a RCI registered licensed Clinical Psychologist. She was an URF in the Department of Psychology; University of Calcutta and was a rank holder during her Masters and Bachelors Program in Psychology.
Work Experience
Her career spans for 15 years working as a Clinical Psychologist. Prior to joining UPES, she has worked with Tata Group, AMRI (Manipal) Group of hospitals and West Bengal Health Services as Gazetted Officer. During her tenure she has trained students undergoing MD & DNB in Psychiatry, Bachelors and Masters Students in Psychology and M. Phil Students in Clinical Psychology. She Counselling also has hold Assistant Teaching positions in Department of Psychology, University of Calcutta. She has also rendered a helping hand towards different NGOs working in the area of mental illness, underprivileged children and child trafficking.
Research Interests

Dr. Das has a keen interest in exploring post traumatic growth and traumatic experiences in Childhood. She has keen interest in area of Gender studies, gender violence and working with Transgender community. Through her research she aims to be a voice for the un-voiced. Being a mental health professional, she wants to leave an impact in understanding the areas of stigma towards mental illness, social inclusivity and therapeutic interventions keeping the cultural milieu in cognizance. She additionally explores areas of care-giver burden and lived experience of individuals with terminal illnesses and mental illnesses. During her M.Phil. training, she has worked with persons with schizophrenia and their attentional process.
Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Das’s teaching philosophy is making connections with the students and understanding the unique potential of each student. She enlivens her classes with real life scenarios and case examples. She believes in introducing a topic which would make her students curious and encourage them to explore the areas on their own under her guidance.
Courses Taught
Dr. Das teaches Clinical Courses like Psychopathology, Counselling, Crisis Management and Social Justice considerations in Counselling.

- Her publications feature in prestigious journals such as Taylor & Francis, Elsevier, Sage and many other national and international journals and conferences.
- She was an URF Fellow in Department of Psychology, University of Calcutta.
- She received best paper awards at various International and National Conferences.
Scholarly Activities
Dr. Das has frequently delivered public lectures on mental health awareness on both online and offline platforms. Besides this she has conducted workshops and lectures for national level CRE programs. She has been invited to speak at and chair various National Conferences of repute. She has worked intensively with differently abled children in outreach camps and has helped with disbursement of disability certificates for the same.
