BA Journalism & Mass Communication

BA Journalism & Mass Communication

Program Details

The BA Journalism and Mass Communication program offered by the Media Cluster, UPES School of Liberal Studies and Humanities is a four-year undergraduate program (eight semesters) built for the digital-first media landscape. It blends strong conceptual grounding with hands-on training in multimedia storytelling across text, video, audio, graphics, and interactive formats.

Students gain practical exposure to digital news production, Mobile Journalism (MOJO), podcasting, visual storytelling, data journalism, and verification, along with learning in strategic communication and public relations, preparing them to graduate as ethical, adaptable, and job-ready media professionals.

Program Highlights

  • Internships, on-the-job training, and capstone projects with real newsroom and content ecosystem exposure
  • Training in digital news production, MOJO, podcasting, video journalism, and cross-platform storytelling
  • Strong focus on social media journalism, audience engagement, brand building, and SEO
  • Exposure to data journalism, analytics, visualisation, and newsroom tools

Media is increasingly shaped by digital-first publishing, mobile-first consumption, algorithm-driven distribution, creator economies, and AI-enabled content workflows. Graduates can pursue roles such as Digital Journalist, Multimedia Reporter, Content Creator, Social Media Manager, Podcast Producer, Video Producer, Copywriter, Digital Marketing Executive, PR and Communications Executive, Content Strategist, and Community/Audience Manager. Career pathways span news organisations, digital media platforms, broadcast networks, content studios, advertising and PR agencies, media startups, and corporate communication teams.

Placements

Students secure opportunities with leading media organisations such as The Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Indian Express, The Free Press Journal, TV Today, News18, NDTV, TV9, ABP News, and ITV Network, along with digital-first platforms and growing media startups. The average starting salary ranges between INR 4–10 LPA, depending on role, platform, and individual capability.
