Details
The four-year undergraduate domain-specific program aims to cater for the industrial, organisational, regional, national, and global needs of sustainability officers/engineers. The specific objective of this program is to develop trained human resources capable of understanding the issues related to human sustenance for the development of sustainable engineering solutions at both micro and mega level. The course will train students in contemporary and futuristic engineering skill sets, with the choice of selecting two specialisations. There is a high demand for such professionals, owing to the Paris Agreement and pressing needs towards the fulfilment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The program provides an opportunity for students to get widespread knowledge and train with the tools and techniques, and economics and policy involving sustainability. Graduates will be skilled to address sustainability issues and become leaders in their fields. They will also be exposed to interdisciplinary research and approaches to SDGs.
Salient feature of B.Tech. Sustainability Engineering Program
- Dual degree opportunity: Complete 2 years at UPES and 2 years abroad with dual degree opportunity at University of Exeter (QS ranked 163), University of Aberdeen, UK (QS ranked 220), Indiana University, Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) etc.

UPES’ curriculum framework is holistic in its overall structure and yet focuses on the individual need of the student to discover, experience, explore and challenge. Along with the core subject, students have the option to choose from subject-focused specialisations. They are also allowed to choose minor/exploratory subject from other schools at UPES that are: School of Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Law, School of Business, School of Health Sciences, School of Design, School of Modern Media, and School of Liberal Studies.
Further, based on the multifaceted needs of the global workplace and evolving lifestyles, the curriculum offers Signature and Life-Skills courses through School for Life. To round off this learning experience, students are required to do mandatory internships in the social sector, government/public sector, and industry. The combinations available for students to pick and choose from are endless, ensuring both depth and width of knowledge.
