Profile Summary
Dr. Jain presently serves as Professor of Accounting & Finance at UPES School of Business, UPES University, Dehradun, India. He holds a PhD in Accounting & Finance from the University of the South Pacific, Suva, Fiji. Throughout his career, he has held teaching positions at universities in India, Central Asia, the South Pacific, and Africa.
He possesses international exposure and cross-cultural competency. He demonstrates a strong commitment to teaching in the fields of finance, accounting, risk management, and insurance. He is committed to fulfilling the teaching and research goals in accounting, banking, finance, and insurance while excelling in academic research that benefits society at large.
Dr. Jain is extremely knowledgeable in ancient Indo-Aryan languages and Indian Knowledge System (IKS). He's also a social golfer.
Work Experience
Prof. Devendra Jain is an experienced academic and banking professional with over 35 years in the financial services sector. Before joining UPES, he headed the Finance Department at FLAME University, Pune, and held faculty positions in Fiji, Uzbekistan, Singapore (Tashkent campus), and Uganda. His banking career includes senior roles in India, Africa, and the South Pacific, where he served as a CEO and Country Head. He also worked as Chief Currency Trader at a leading Indian commercial bank.

Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Jain employs practitioners’ experience and incorporates live case studies, simulations, and additional methods for effective teaching pedagogies.
Courses Taught
Prof. Jain has taught a wide range of finance and management courses, including Trading in Financial Markets, International Financial Management, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, International Finance, Strategic Management Accounting, Enterprise and Financial Risk Management, and various subjects related to Banking and Insurance. His teaching integrates industry experience with academic rigor, offering students practical insights into global financial systems.
Scholarly Activities
Dr. Jain has published in esteemed research journals. His research profile features 13 published papers, including 5 in Scopus-Q1, 5 in SSCI, and others classified as ABDC-A and B. Numerous working papers feature international collaborations and a multidisciplinary approach. He has presented his research at several prestigious conferences in the finance area, including the Annual BAFA (British Accounting & Finance Association) Conference 2023 at the University of Sheffield, UK; the Annual Conference 2019 of the Asia Finance Association in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; the Annual IAABD 2011 (International Association of African Business & Development) in Edmonton, Canada; and the Annual IFABS Conference 2024 (International Finance & Banking Society) at Shanghai University, China, among others.
