Profile Summary
Prof. (Dr.) Roy Someshwar is a Design and Innovation Leader with over 15 years of global industry experience. He is an ex-Googler, former Vice President at CropIn Tech, and currently serves as Professor of UX and Interaction Design at the School of Design, UPES.
After spending more than 14 years abroad, he recently returned to India, having lived and worked in six countries, travelled professionally across more than 35 countries, and developed fluency in five languages. He is notably the first Indian to have served as a Board Member for two European Union non-profit policy think-tank bodies associated with the European Commission.
A recipient of Europe's three most prestigious fellowships — Erasmus Mundus (M.S.), Marie Curie Fellowship (Ph.D.), and Asia Leadership Fellow (MBA) — collectively valued at over half a million dollars, he was also honoured by the Prime Minister's Office for fostering strategic R&D relations between India and Israel. Prof. Roy specializes in Human-AI Interaction Design, IPR Management, and the science behind designing engaging digital products.
Work Experience
Prof. Roy is an internationally recognized design leader with extensive experience transforming digital interaction experiences across web, mobile, IoT, AI Assistants, AR/VR, and Generative AI into meaningful user experiences.
He has built and scaled cross-functional global teams at the intersection of design, strategy, technology, and product management. He has held senior leadership roles including Vice President and Senior Vice President across B2B and B2C sectors such as FinTech, IoT Tech, Consumer Technology, Agri-Tech, and AR/VR. His contributions span innovation strategy, systems design, human-AI interaction, and large-scale digital product ecosystems.

Teaching Philosophy
Prof. Roy is among the early adopters of Harvard-style Case Method pedagogy within Indian design education. This active, discussion-based approach uses real-world scenarios where students analyze complex design challenges, debate alternative solutions, and make decisions as leaders would in real contexts.
His teaching emphasizes critical thinking, leadership, and practical problem-solving over passive learning. He is committed to introducing innovative and future-ready pedagogies that connect academic learning with evolving industry realities.

Awards and Achievements

Scholarly Activities
Prof. Roy has authored 12 publications in top-tier international journals and conferences. He has participated in more than 30 international academic and industry events as an invited speaker, keynote presenter, and panelist.
He also serves as reviewer for six international journals and conferences and is an active academic member of seven global scientific and professional networks. His scholarly contributions continue to influence design innovation, digital product strategy, and emerging human-centered technologies.
