Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 50 % marks at Higher & Senior Secondary Level (10th & 12th)
  • Any of the below:
    • B. Tech / BE in any relevant discipline / B. Arch / BFA/ Interior Design/ B. Des/ BVA.
    • 3 year Degree such as B.Sc. / BA/ BFA/ BVA in Applied Art/ Design of any other relevant disciplines (with min. 50% marks)
    • 2 years M.Sc. / M.Tech. in Computer Science, CSE, IT subjects / domains (only for Interaction Design). Or equivalent.

M. Des Admission Process at UPES

The Master of Design or M. Design course at UPES equips you with a wide range of theoretical knowledge and practical design skills that can be useful in any designing career. The university is also the right place to launch your career as it is the first university in India to be awarded the QS Five Stars Global Rating for employability in 2016. With the increasing relevance of art and design in modern industries like digital marketing, website designing and interior decoration, the career landscape in designing has completely been transformed. A master’s degree in design can help you take advantage of this industry boom by enhancing your creativity and providing additional skills like out-of-the-box thinking and an enhanced aesthetic sense. The M. Des degree can also help you narrow down the concepts learnt in your bachelor’s course to shape your career in a specific direction.

Eligibility criteria for M. Des admissions

The students seeking admission into the M. Des courses need to fulfil the following M. Des eligibility criteria.

  • Applicants should possess a minimum aggregate of 50% in their secondary (X) and higher secondary (XII) exams for admission in all courses.
  • A bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines such as B. Tech, BE, B. Arch, BFA, B. Des and BVA.
  • A bachelor’s degree lasting for a minimum of three years in relevant subjects such as Applied Art, Design and Architecture.
  • Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree from a recognised university.
  • The minimum passing marks in the UPES M. Des entrance exam or a valid CEED score of 40.5 and above.

Admission procedure for enrolling in M. Des degree

UPES accepts the admission applications for those students who have applied for its design entrance test called UPESDAT. Candidates seeking an M. Des admission can fill their UPESDAT applications online or offline and submit it along with their photographs.

After this, they need to appear for the UPESDAT exam online. The selected candidates are invited for the personal interview round. Students with a CEED score of 40.5 can directly proceed to this stage without a UPESDAT score.

In the interview round, students are also required to present their work portfolio which must include one of the following:

  • Hand-drawn sketches and drawings showcasing variety of techniques using markers and colour pencils (10-15 sheets)
  • Digital drawings and sketches rendered using digital tools and media (2D and 3D)
  • A physical model or prototype of fabric or construction design

The selected candidates in this round are invited to take admissions in the M. Des course of their preferred specialisation.

Fees structure

The M. Des course fees can be categorised into two different groups—academic fees and miscellaneous costs. The academic fees constitutes of the academic services fees and the tuition fees. The amount for these fees depends on the specialisation of the M. Des course selected.

The second group includes other miscellaneous costs such as personal development fee or convocation fee. Here are the different fixed miscellaneous costs in addition to tuition and academic service fees.

  • Academic computing fee of Rs 3,200 per semester
  • Convocation fee of Rs 1,500 payable by the second last semester
  • Training and certification fee of Rs 22,500 payable by second semester
  • Personal Development Program fee of Rs 7,500 payable at registration
  • Medical Insurance fee of Rs 500 payable at registration
  • Refundable security amount of Rs 20,000 payable at registration
  • Additional levies and taxes charged by the Central/ State/ Local /Overseas authorities as and when applicable

25% Scholarship for Girl Students

25% scholarship will be offered on tuition fees of complete program duration for all girl students taking admission in any of the UG or PG programs for 2020 intake.

Up to 100% merit based scholarships

Scholarship will be offered to students securing an aggregate of 80% marks in class X & XII & 80% marks in CBSE/ ICSE / State Examination Board.

Scholarships for M. Des. Students

To encourage more meritorious students to take admission in the university, UPES offers several scholarship schemes for M. Des admissions. Under the Scholarship Scheme for Girl Students, all girl students are offered scholarships equivalent to waivers of 25% on the tuition fee for the complete course duration.

Under the Merit Based Scholarship, students with a minimum aggregate of 80% in their secondary (X) and higher secondary (XII) exams in CBSE/ICSE/State Board are offered scholarships worth up to 100% of the tuition fees for the complete course duration.

Applicants must note that they can avail only one category of scholarship with their admission. Multiple scholarships will not be granted to a single candidate.

Entrance test for M. Des courses

UPES University conducts a pan-India entrance test for its M. Des courses named the UPES Design Aptitude Test or UPESDAT for those students who do not have a valid CEED score. Only the students who are selected in this entrance test can appear for the Interview and Portfolio round.

The test determines the knowledge and skills of students in different design theories and techniques. The exam is conducted online and lasts for 60 minutes. The applicants need to answer correctly as many objective type questions as they can in the time allotted. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. The candidates can check their UPESDAT results on the UPES website with their application numbers.
