Design Admissions

Here is everything you need to know about the Design Admissions B.Des and M.Des, UPESDAT 2026 examination process for the AY 2026-27.

Eligibility Criteria

B.Des.: Minimum 50% marks in Class X and XII with any Stream.

M.Des: 

  • Minimum 50% marks at Higher and Senior Secondary Level (X & XII).
  • Minimum 50% marks in Bachelor’s degree in any stream: 10+2+3 years (B.Des/B.Arch. / B.Tech/ BFA graduates will be preferred).
  • Valid CEED/NID/NIFT Score
Selection Criteria

B.Des.: UPESDAT/ National Level Test (NID/ NIFT/ UCEED/ JEE) / Board Merit/ CUET followed by Portfolio Presentation & Interview.

M.Des.: UPESDAT/ National Level (Valid CEED/ NID/ NIFT Score) followed by Portfolio Presentation & Interview.

Portfolio Presentation

Offline Portfolio Presentation

  • Hand drawn sketches / rendering using simple Pencils, colour markers / pencils or any other media such as charcoal, natural dyes etc.
  • Photography: aspirants can showcase their photography skills and present pictures / images clicked by you OR any experimentation on Digital media – Drawing, sketching, and rendering using digital media, tools, and techniques (2 dimensional, 3 dimensional).
  • Physical Model / Prototype - i.e., something made of Clay, Plastic, Wood, Cardboard etc.
  • Apart from the above, aspirants can also bring in anything to express / taste as creative skills.
  • Certificates of Competitions / any special mention – for example class competitions etc. (if any)

Online Portfolio Presentation

Design Portfolio: Prepare a digital portfolio in PDF or PPT format as per the requirements below. The portfolio will be presented on the Microsoft Teams platform.

  • Hand-drawn sketches / renderings: Include scanned copies of your hand-drawn sketches or renderings created using pencils, color markers/pencils, or any other media such as charcoal, natural dyes, etc. These may include everyday objects, nature studies, symbolic, or experimental works.
  • Photography / Digital Media Work: You may showcase your photography skills by presenting original photographs clicked by you. Alternatively, if you have experimented with digital media, you may include drawings, sketches, or renderings created using digital tools and techniques (2D and/or 3D).
  • Certificates & Achievements: Include scanned copies of certificates from competitions or any special recognitions (for example, class-level competitions), if applicable.
Process Flow

Aspirants are advised to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Mode of Examination – Online
  • Test duration – 1 hour
  • Take a Demo Test – B.Des. Link (Click here) & M.Des. Link (Click here)
  • The actual credentials (passkeys) required to appear for the exam will be sent to applicants on their registered mobile numbers one day prior to the exam date.
  • Portfolio Presentation & Interview will be conducted after the exam, as well as respective slot bookings. 

It is recommended that students take a demo test to gain practice and resolve queries before the actual examination.

Non-Exam Pathway

B.Des.: National Level Test (NID/NIFT/UCEED/JEE/CUET)/ Board merit (Minimum 60% in 10th & 12th )

M.Des.: Candidates having valid CEED scores will be exempted from UPESDAT Exam.

Fellowship in M. Des Program

Teaching Assistance ship up to ₹3,000/- is available for students pursuing M. Des Program.

Eligibility Criteria for Fellowship for M.Des Students

  • Minimum SGPA/ CGPA 8.5 in the first Semester and subsequent semesters/ year.
  • Passed every semester on the first attempt without any supplementary or improvement exam.
  • Minimum of 75% attendance in the entire semester.
  • No disciplinary action was initiated/ awarded against the student.
  • Exemplary behavior and compliance with all other norms as prescribed by the University.
    Such students must not be getting any kind of financial assistance/support e.g., fellowship/scholarship/fee waiver etc. from any other source public or private.
Exam Process
  • Take a Demo Test. Students are recommended to take a demo test to gain practice and resolve any queries before the actual examination.

  • Login credentials for online exam. Actual credentials (passkey) to appear for the exam on the chosen date will be provided to students one day prior to the exam on registered email ID and mobile number. This should not be confused with the demo link passkey.
  • The examination Test window will be from 10 am to 2 pm.
    Students can log in during the given timeframe and begin with the online test. The timer starts when the student logs in.
  • Personal Interviews to follow exam and slot booking
