The tenth iteration of annual UPES SPE Fest was attended by over 450 students from 17 national and international prestigious institutions, including Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, National Institute of Technology, Raipur, Dibrugarh University, Barmer Engineering College, Wadia College, Pune and many more. The Chief Guest for the Inaugural Ceremony of the Fest, held on 13th February, 2020, was Mr. TK Sengupta, Regional Director, SPE South Asia Pacific Region, Director E&P, FIPI and ex-Director, Offshore, ONGC, while the Guest of Honor was Mr. Pradipta Mishra, Executive Director and HoI (GEOPIC), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation. For the Indian Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition, held on 14th February, 2020 the Guest of Honor was Dr. Harilal, Executive Director, ONGC and Mr. S.C Sharma, Former Officer on Special Duty, Government of India, and Founder of Petronet LNG and for the Valedictory Ceremony, held on 15th February, 2020, it was Mr. Ashesh Siawal, Executive Director and Head Of Institute (KDMIPE), ONGC.
The tagline of this mega three-day technical extravaganza was "Where Ideas Grow”. The theme pondered upon the importance of ideas that present to us possibilities of a better future, and which will successfully help in expanding the horizon of Oil and Gas Industry. The centerpiece of this technical annual meet was the Indian Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition 2020 that was conducted on the second day. The Conference was divided into two panels:
• Oil and Gas Industry of The Future • Indian LNG and Gas Forum
The first panel laid a comprehensive approach of how digital technologies will successfully reflect across the entire gamut of verticals in the industry. While, the theme of the second panel was based on empowering a Gas based economy for India.
The Fest comprised of 17 events that varied from technical paper and poster presentations to international level case studies to non-technical/fun events like treasure hunt. All these events aimed at enhancing the technical acumen of all the budding petroleum engineers. One of the distinguished events that was conducted was ExxonMobil MasterClass Challenge which was a problem-solving event aimed at testing the critical analyzing skills of the participants. Wherein the delegates of ExxonMobil gave a brief introduction to the Case Study to all the participants following which they were given half an hour to create a solution and present it in front of the judges.
Around 40 eminent industry delegates and alumni from reputed Oil and Gas Companies attended the fest. The speakers of the conference and judges of various events were from esteemed industries like Shell Global, Schlumberger, ONGC, Petronet LNG, Mordor Intelligence, and Reliance Industries.
Some of the sponsors for the Fest were giant industries like ONGC, Petronet LNG, Schlumberger, Shell Business Operations, ExxonMobil, Infosys, Reliance and Mordor Intelligence.
In a nutshell, the UPES SPE Fest 2020 turned out to be a huge success, both in terms of outreach and introspection.
