
Prof Ashwini Kumar Nangia

Prof Ashwini Kumar Nangia completed his M.Sc. from IIT Kanpur and earned a Ph.D. from Yale University. He joined the University of Hyderabad in 1989 and rose to the position of Senior Professor. He also served as Dean of the School of Chemistry.
His research in crystal engineering spans polymorphs, cocrystals, salts, eutectics, and amorphous forms of drugs and pharmaceuticals. His recent academic interests include flow chemistry and the application of AI, machine learning, and cheminformatics in drug discovery.
Prof. Nangia has authored over 350 research publications, with more than 19,000 citations and an h-index of 71. He is a Fellow of India’s three premier National Science Academies and the Royal Society of Chemistry, London. He has been awarded the prestigious J.C. Bose National Fellowship, now in its third term. He also served as Director of CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.
Prof. Nangia is a member of editorial boards for journals published by the American Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the International Union of Crystallography. He is consistently ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide as per Stanford University metrics and is listed in the Highly Ranked Researchers of Scholar GPS 2024 among the top 30 scientists from India across all fields.
Prof. Ashwini Kumar Nangia has been honored with the Visitor’s Award for Research in Physical Sciences (2023), one of the most prestigious recognitions in Indian academia, presented by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on March 3, 2025, at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Instituted in 2014, the Visitor’s Award is the highest recognition conferred by the President of India to celebrate exceptional contributions in the fields of research, innovation, and technology development.
