Dr. Manish Kumar has an accomplished research profile in synchrotron radiation-based studies and thin films. He received his Ph.D. degree from UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, Indore, and later advanced his expertise at Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, POSTECH, South Korea. His research focuses on synchrotron radiation-based investigations, thin films and nanostructures, magnetism, strongly correlated materials, thermochromic materials, diluted magnetic semiconductors, solar cells, and photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting.
Over ten years of research engagement have enabled Dr. Kumar to make significant contributions to materials science and technology. His research impact is reflected through more than 75 publications in reputed indexed journals. He has also received several prestigious fellowships and awards in recognition of his academic excellence and research contributions.
Work Experience
Before joining UPES, Dr. Manish Kumar spent nearly a decade as a Researcher in the Beamline Division at the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), POSTECH, South Korea, beginning in November 2015.
At PAL, he assisted in managing the 5A X-ray diffraction beamline, conducted advanced synchrotron experiments, and collaborated internationally on research involving energy materials and functional materials.

Dr. Kumar focuses on cultivating curiosity and analytical thinking by helping students relate fundamental scientific ideas to practical applications. He strives to build an encouraging learning atmosphere where students actively participate, think independently, and develop steadily in their academic journey.
His approach emphasizes conceptual understanding, scientific reasoning, and research-oriented learning.

Dr. Manish Kumar’s scholarly contributions have been recognized through several prestigious national and international fellowships, research grants, and awards, including GATE (2010), JEST (2010), CSIR-SRF, International Travel Grant (ITS) by SERB, INSA-CSIR-DAE/BRNS-CICS Fellowship, ITS by APRI, GIST South Korea Fellowship, ICTP Italy ITS Fellowship, along with competitive project funding from the National Research Foundation of Korea.
Scholarly Activities
Dr. Manish Kumar’s research has resulted in numerous publications in SCI/Scopus-indexed journals and conference proceedings. He has published more than 75 research papers in reputed international journals along with several book chapters.
He actively contributes to the scientific community through editorial and reviewing responsibilities. He serves as Associate Editor for the Thin Solid Films section of Frontiers in Materials and as Topic Adviser Panel Member and Guest Editor for Magnetism and Coatings (MDPI).
He has also served as Guest Editor for the Journal of Electronic Materials (Springer) and Applied Nanoscience (Springer Nature), and has evaluated book proposals for Elsevier.
