Profile Summary

Dr. Samriti is an Assistant Professor at UPES, Dehradun. Before joining UPES, she worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, University of Oslo (UiO), Norway. She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, India, in 2024. 

Her doctoral research focused on the dual functionality of semiconductor photocatalysts for pollutant degradation and contaminant detection using Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). Her current research interests include the synthesis and modification of photocatalytic nanomaterials for sustainable energy applications, with a specific emphasis on photoelectrocatalytic hydrogen generation and CO₂ reduction. She is also engaged in emerging work on liquid metals, exploring their potential in photocatalysis and chemical sensing. 

Work Experience

Before joining UPES, Dr. Samriti was a researcher at the Department of Physics / Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, University of Oslo (UiO), Norway. Her research experience includes interdisciplinary work in materials science, nanotechnology, and sustainable energy systems. 

Research Interests

Design, synthesis, and modification of photocatalytic nanomaterials for environmental and sustainable energy applications; semiconductor-based pollutant degradation; SERS-based contaminant detection; photoelectrocatalytic hydrogen generation and CO₂ reduction; liquid metals for photocatalysis and sensing; nanomaterial engineering; surface chemistry; advanced characterization techniques. 

Teaching Philosophy

Dr. Samriti’s teaching philosophy is centred on creating an engaging, inquiry-driven learning environment that encourages critical thinking and scientific curiosity. She aims to bridge theoretical concepts with real-world applications, enabling students to connect classroom learning with current research and industry needs. 

She believes in fostering inclusivity, collaboration, and hands-on learning to empower students to develop problem-solving skills, independence, and a lifelong interest in science. Her approach integrates mentorship, continuous feedback, and experiential learning to support holistic student growth.

Awards and Grants

Dr. Samriti has qualified national-level examinations including GATE and NET. She received the Best Oral Presentation Award at ICAMSA-2021 organized by J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad. 

In 2023, she was awarded an ITS Travel Grant by SERB to attend an international conference in Thailand. She has also delivered an invited talk at the International Symposium on Smart Materials and Applications organized by Amity University, India. 

Scholarly Activities

Dr. Samriti is deeply committed to advancing research in semiconductor photocatalysis, Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS), and photoelectrocatalytic systems, with a strong focus on sustainable energy generation and environmental remediation. 

She has established herself as an accomplished researcher with 24 publications in peer-reviewed Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals, including ACS ES&T Water, Langmuir, Chemical Communications, and Journal of Materials Chemistry C. In addition, she has authored six book chapters published by Springer and Elsevier. Her scholarly work reflects strong contributions to contemporary materials chemistry and green technology research.
