Work Experience

Dr. Adesh Kumar has 18 years of experience spanning Teaching, Research, and Industry, including more than 16 years at UPES. Prior to joining UPES, he served as a Faculty Member in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at The ICFAI University, Dehradun, India (Dec 2009 – May 2010). He has also worked as a Senior Engineer at TATA ELXSI Limited, Bangalore (Nov 2008 – Oct 2009), and as a VHDL Trainer/Expert at Cetpa Infotech Pvt. Ltd., Roorkee, India (June 2006 – Aug 2006).

Dr. Adesh Kumar aims to integrate digital learning platforms and practical components—such as field studies, video lectures, hands-on experiments, and software tools—to enhance the effectiveness of lecture delivery. He strongly believes in staying updated with emerging technologies and current literature to keep pace with the evolving academic and industrial landscape. Dr. Kumar extensively uses digital learning resources such as Blackboard, LMS platforms, presentations, and instructional videos to ensure impactful and engaging teaching. He is committed to building an educational ecosystem that caters to student needs while aligning with international accreditation standards. He emphasizes attracting and retaining the right talent by fostering a culture of academic freedom, motivation, and empowerment. His teaching philosophy also includes promoting collaborative research with reputed universities and preparing competent graduates equipped with strong technical and professional skills.

Dr. Adesh Kumar received a Certificate of Appreciation from the R & D department, UPES, Dehradun, for publishing research papers in 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019. He was awarded the Extraordinary Research Paper Award at the 3rd International RTCSE-018, Bangkok, Thailand, organized by Alborg University, Denmark, and Gyancity Research Lab, India. Additionally, he received the Dedicated Service Award for 5 years, 10 years of service at UPES, Dehradun in November 2015, June 2024.

Scholarly Activities

As a professional in the VLSI and Embedded Systems domain, Dr. Adesh Kumar believes in integrating both software and hardware using the latest VLSI and embedded system tools. He provides hands-on training to students in front-end VLSI design tools as well as embedded software and hardware, ensuring they develop strong product-oriented skills. Dr. Kumar actively contributes to enhancing students' technical proficiency in tools such as Xilinx ISE, Vivado, ModelSim, Quartus II, and various FPGA platforms. He has been involved in several training programs and FDPs delivered across the globe. Dr. Kumar has conducted a one-week FDP on AMD–Xilinx tools for VLSI at UPES for three consecutive years July 2017, 2018, and 2019 and delivered an expert talk for the IEEE UP Section in 2020. He has also chaired and delivered invited talks in more than 50 sessions at international conferences, including the Indian Society for VLSI Education.
