Work Experience

Before joining UPES, Dr. Mukesh Sharma had over 8 years of experience in the design and development of optoelectronic devices. After completing his PhD from IIT Delhi, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tel-Aviv University, Israel, and NTU Singapore, where he focused on hybrid liquid crystal-optical metasurface platform-based tunable optical devices. He also served as Associate Professor in the ECE Department at SR University, Warangal, and worked as a Research Assistant at CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, India.

Teaching Philosophy

Prof. Mukesh’s teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that teaching is a continuous process of learning, while research is the creation of knowledge through constant investigation. He believes teaching integrated with research is more fruitful, as students can connect with real-world problems, their solutions, and applications. His approach fosters a vibrant and collaborative learning environment that develops sharper thinkers, innovative problem solvers, and confident decision-makers.

Awards and Grants

Prof. Mukesh Sharma was awarded the prestigious ANRF Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant (PMECRG) 2025. He also received the Incubic Milton Chang Grant 2021 from OPTICA USA. In addition, he was awarded Postdoctoral Fellowships from NTU Singapore and Tel-Aviv University, Israel during 2018–2023 and 2023 respectively. 

Scholarly Activities

Prof. Mukesh Sharma is actively engaged in research on emerging active and reconfigurable optoelectronic and photonic devices, including hybrid liquid crystal-metasurface platform-based nanoscale systems. His research has been published in leading journals such as Science Advances, Laser & Photonics Reviews, Advanced Optical Materials, ACS Photonics, and IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology

He has also served as an active peer reviewer and reviewed more than 80 manuscripts for over 25 reputed journals, including Science Advances, Nature Reviews Bioengineering, Laser & Photonics Reviews, Advanced Functional Materials, Photonics Research, Reports on Progress in Physics, and IEEE Sensors Journal. His scholarly contributions demonstrate sustained engagement with global research and academic excellence.
