Abinash Mohanty is an early-career academic in the field of Fire and Safety Engineering, committed to advancing engineering-driven safety solutions for industrial operations. Work Experience
Abinash joined UPES in August 2025. Prior to this, he was actively engaged in academic and research work at NIT Rourkela during his M.Tech and PhD. His work included safety risk assessments, risk modelling, and involvement in various academic and departmental activities. At UPES, he serves as an Assistant Professor in the Sustainability Cluster, where he teaches Fire and Safety Engineering courses and mentors students on research and project work.
Research Interests
Abinash’s research interests lie in the areas of hazard identification and risk assessment, quantitative risk modelling, behavior based safety, disaster management, and assessment of safety culture and performance.
Teaching Philosophy
Abinash believes that meaningful learning occurs when students can connect theoretical concepts with real-world safety challenges. He aims to create a structured, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes critical thinking and collaborative learning. By integrating case studies and incident analyses, he helps students develop technical competence and a proactive safety mindset. His teaching approach emphasises clarity, relevance, and continuous improvement.
