Dr. Deepak Ranjan
Dr. Deepak Ranjan brings rich experience from the industry in the Marketing domain. He has 8 years of diversified experience in the industry, having worked in the Financial and Media sectors. He has a strong background in sales. After working for 8 years in the industry, he decided to shift to academics to pursue his higher studies and completed his PhD from IIM Indore. During his PhD, he focused on exploring various factors to develop trust in online retail. He teaches Sales Management, Brand Management, Digital Marketing, and Social Media Marketing. He also enjoys teaching Strategic Management. He holds dual Master's degrees in Management and Commerce. He graduated with a degree in Mathematics from St. Xavier's College, Ranchi. He cleared the NET exam twice before transitioning to academics, bringing a mix of theoretical and practical knowledge to the classroom.
Before joining UPES, Prof. Ranjan worked in the industry for 8 years. He served as a Sales Manager at ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited before becoming a Branch Manager at ICICI Securities Limited. He also held the position of heading Bihar and Jharkhand for 92.7 BIG FM, Reliance Broadcast Network Limited before pursuing his PhD at IIM Indore. He is a fellow from IIM Indore and completed his PhD in 2022.

Dr. Ranjan's teaching philosophy is grounded in the understanding that it is his responsibility to create an ecosystem that supports and encourages student learning. He enjoys connecting stories with concepts and often corroborates them with examples. He challenges students to think critically in order to solve industry-related problems. He has incorporated elements of "flipping the classroom" into his teaching, such as pre-reading assignments where students read assigned sections of the textbook and/or other resources before coming to class, followed by a short quiz. The quiz material is not repeated in class but serves as the foundation for in-class assignments that involve students working with real data and situations. By using authentic problems, Dr. Ranjan helps students transition from novice to expert thinking.
Dr. Ranjan teaches elective courses on Brand Management, Digital Brand Management, Sales and Channel Management, Digital Marketing, and Social Media Marketing. He also covers the basic concepts of Marketing along with models and concepts from various electives. His teaching empowers students to excel in the modern marketing world.
Awards and Grants
Dr. Ranjan's research work has been accepted by several top institutions, such as the American Marketing Association (AMA), ANZMAC Australia, and ISB Hyderabad. He was nominated by IIM Indore and received a grant to attend a Teaching Workshop at IIM Bangalore.
Dr. Ranjan has actively participated in and presented his work at several international conferences. He has presented his work at ANZMAC Australia and ANZMAC New Zealand. Additionally, his work has been accepted for presentation at the American Marketing Association Conference in the USA. He has also presented his work at ISB Hyderabad, Great Lake Institute of Management, IIM Lucknow, IIM Calcutta, among others. He serves as a reviewer for the AMA conference and the CERE conference organized by IIM Indore. He is a full-time member of the Association of North America Higher Education International (ANAHEI) in Florida, USA.
