Profile Summary
Professor Subrata Kumar Nandi is an engineering graduate from Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, an MBA from Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Tiruchirapalli, and a PhD from XLRI, Jamshedpur.
His professional career has spanned across various industry sectors. Before turning to academics, he has handled various responsibilities in organizations like Coal India Limited; Widia India Limited (now Kennametal); Dalmia Cement; Hughes Communications; and Archies Limited. As an academic he has taught in various business schools in Delhi NCR and Pune. He has conducted executive training programs for corporate managers at the middle and senior levels in supply chain management. He has coauthored a book titled “Logistics Management”, published by Oxford University Press, New Delhi.
Work Experience
Professor Nandi has a combined work experience of 28 years, with 11 years of experience in the industry and 17 years in academics. He has held senior and middle level positions in the industry like National Channel Sales Manager (Actis Technologies) and General Manager (Archies Limited). He has taught as part-time and full-time faculty at various academic institutions like IBS Business School (Pune), JK Business School (Gurugram), Great Lakes (Gurugram), and SCMHRD (Pune).

Teaching Philosophy
Prof. Nandi holds a personal belief that teaching goes much beyond imparting knowledge. A teacher’s task is to stimulate students’ thought processes and encourage them to apply the knowledge to situations beyond classroom boundaries. Prof. Nandi believes that to keep students interested in the subject and to trigger their curiosity, the means are as important as the ends. Therefore, teaching must be engaging, enjoyable, and value-adding. He also believes that his role as a teacher is to broaden students’ perspectives by making them think critically through exposure to various situations like case examples and practical insights.
Courses Taught
Prof. Nandi has taught courses like supply chain management, operations management, business statistics, operations research, and service operations management.
Awards and Grants
Was adjudged the Best Faculty for Institution Building by IBS Business School, Pune during 2017-18 session.
Scholarly Activities
Prof. Nandi has published case studies, book chapters, books, and practitioner articles. Some of his publications include books titled “Logistics Management” (Oxford University Press), and “Dabbawala of Mumbai – Masters of Supply Chain Management (LB Associates); case studies on “Archies Limiteed” and “Nitor Infotech”, published in Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies Journal. Prof. Nandi is a member of the review committee of The Journal of Services Research, published by Vedatya Institute, Gurugram.
