Profile Summary

Prof. Tumpa Dey brings a distinctive blend of academic and industry experience to management education. She holds a PGDPMIR and FPM from XLRI Xavier School of Management, an M.A. in Sociology and M.Phil. in Gender Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and completed her graduation from Presidency College. 

She also holds POSH certification and a DEI certification from Muma College of Business, University of South Florida. 

Her expertise spans Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, Diversity and Inclusion, and Corporate Governance. She combines strong academic grounding with applied industry insight to create relevant and impactful learning experiences.

Work Experience

Before joining UPES, Prof. Dey served at Institute of Management Technology Hyderabad, ICFAI Business School Hyderabad, and Praxis Business School. She began her academic career as Visiting Lecturer at Jadavpur University. 

Prior to academia, she spent nearly a decade with organisations including Tata Steel, Manjulika Foundation for Human Concerns, and XLRI on short-term projects. She has also served as Visiting Faculty at XLRI, IIFT, XIMB, and other institutions.

Mindfulness; Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belongingness; Board Diversity; Creativity; Abusive Supervision; Dehumanization; Neurodiversity.

Teaching Philosophy

Prof. Dey believes in creating an engaging and student-centred learning environment that promotes critical thinking and practical application. She uses case studies, simulations, group projects, and personalised feedback to help students understand contemporary HR and organisational challenges while building professional capabilities.

Prof. Dey actively contributes to research and thought leadership in diversity, governance, and workplace behaviour. Her recent articles in The Economic Times and Mint discuss ageism, innovation, and board diversity. 

She has also published in ABDC-indexed journals, including research on organisational justice, dehumanization, abusive supervision, and workplace incivility in Academy of Marketing Studies Journal. 

Her scholarly work reflects a strong commitment to inclusive workplaces, leadership effectiveness, and contemporary organisational challenges.
