Profile Summary
Dr. Sujoy Chatterjee is currently an Assistant Professor (Selection Grade) in the School of Computer Science at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun. He previously worked as an Associate Professor at SR University and has held academic and research positions at Amity University Kolkata and internationally. He completed his Ph.D. from University of Kalyani in 2018, followed by postdoctoral research at University of Campinas, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, and University of Côte d'Azur. He also served as a short-term visiting researcher at University of Genoa.
Dr. Chatterjee's research interests include human–computer interaction, data mining, machine learning, and intelligent systems. He has published in leading conferences such as IJCNN, CHI, ICDE, and reputed journals including IEEE TKDE, Information Sciences, and Knowledge-Based Systems.
Work Experience
Before joining UPES, he worked at research institutions in France, South Korea, and Brazil as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. He also served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at UPES, Amity University Kolkata, and SR University with more than six years of total post-Ph.D. academic experience.

Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Chatterjee believes teaching reconnects him to the fundamentals of a subject, which is essential for advancing research. He emphasizes that mastering basics helps students become independent thinkers with their own perspectives.
His teaching approach is not merely about passing information but enabling students to think deeply about a topic. He also strongly encourages collaborative learning among students.

Awards and Achievements
Dr. Sujoy Chatterjee has received numerous international and national recognitions, including multiple postdoctoral fellowships in Brazil, South Korea, and France. He has received international travel scholarships from IEEE TCDE, AAAI, CCC, ACM India, and IKDD CoDS to present research at leading conferences. He has won multiple Best Paper Awards and was selected among only 15 young researchers worldwide for the Young Investigator Training Program (YITP) in Italy. He also received the University Research Scholar Fellowship from the University of Kalyani during his Ph.D.
Scholarly Activities
Dr. Sujoy Chatterjee has been actively involved in impactful research, teaching, and academic service across leading institutions in India and abroad. His scholarly work focuses on human–computer interaction, data mining, machine learning, and intelligent systems, resulting in publications in high-quality venues such as CHI, ICDE, AAAI HCOMP, ACM IKDD CODS, IEEE TKDE, Information Sciences, and Knowledge-Based Systems.
He has collaborated with international research teams through postdoctoral positions in Brazil, South Korea, and France, and visiting research in Italy. He regularly presents his work at global platforms including Stanford University, Indian Institute of Science, and Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He also contributes through mentoring students, curriculum enhancement, invited talks, and peer reviewing for reputed journals and conferences.
