Profile Summary
Professor Sushabhan Choudhury has scholarly, research and administrative experience of 29 years. He received his graduation, post-graduation and doctoral degrees from premier Institutions. Over the years, he has been involved in research and dissemination of research outcomes. He has also worked in the capacity of Academic Coordinator, Head of the Department and Dean, School of Technology, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Work Experience
Before joining UPES, Prof. Sushabhan was at North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. He also worked at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) in various positions, including as Professor and Head of Department. He was also Academic Planning Coordinator at SMIT.

Teaching Philosophy
Prof. Sushabhan Choudhury teaches a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as special topics in the area of electronics. For introductory undergraduate courses such as electronics, communication, and electronics devices, he prefers simulation-based minor projects instead of assignments that will help in developing fundamental principles and problem-solving strategies. In postgraduate courses such as embedded systems, he includes a project of the students’ choice which will be beneficial for addressing societal needs and enable students to not only build a prototype model, but also gain first-hand knowledge about troubleshooting.
Courses Taught
Prof. Sushabhan Choudhury has been teaching courses like embedded systems, wireless sensor networks, electronics devices and circuits, digital systems design, digital and analog communication, VLSI design, etc. He is passionate about developing new pedagogical tools and interactive classes.
Awards and Grants
Prof. Sushabhan received an Award of Excellence in Research from UPES in 2016. He was also awarded for setting up a state-of-the-art nanotechnology lab at SMIT. He was a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) for a project of ? 12 lakh granted by Ornate Agencies Private Ltd. He was also the principal investigator (PI) for a project granted by DST for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure in Universities and Higher Educational Institutions (FIST) Program: Granted ? 1.14 crore in 50:50 mode. He was also the PI for a project titled ‘High-Performance Polymer Single-Wall Carbon Nanotube Composites for Potential Applications to Spacecraft, Defence and Electronics’. The amount sanctioned by AICTE was ? 20 lakh. He has been granted five patents and several published patents. Apart from publishing a large number of research papers in Scopus and SCI-indexed journals, he has authored six books in the area of embedded systems and smart agriculture, to name a few.
Scholarly Activities
Prof. Sushabhan has been the coordinator for implementing Minors in AI, IoT, Robotics, Blockchain and Data Analytics at UPES. His work has a strong focus on innovation, with an emphasis on outcomes such as preparing students for taking up various innovation challenges. Prof. Choudhury has also supervised various project works for undergraduate and postgraduate students on a wide range of topics. He has supervised several PhD students in the area of WSN, Embedded Systems, IoT, AI, etc.
