Dr. Tarun Kumar

Dr. Tarun Kumar is an accomplished academician and researcher with nearly two decades of professional experience in Computer Science, spanning academia, research, and industry. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from National Institute of Technology Patna, where he specialized in Data Security, DNA Computing, and secure access control in cloud environments. He also holds an M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering and a B.Tech in Information Technology from Kurukshetra University.

Before joining UPES as an Associate Professor in July 2025, Dr. Kumar served in various academic roles at Galgotias University, Echelon Institute of Technology, and N.C. College of Engineering, and also worked in industry as a Software Developer.

His extensive research contributions include publications in elite SCI/Scopus-indexed journals, book chapters with leading global publishers, and multiple patents in AI, IoT, and Data Science. A Senior Member of IEEE, he actively contributes to the research community as a reviewer and conference organizer.

Dr. Kumar is currently an Associate Professor at UPES (since July 2025). Prior to this, he served as Assistant Professor at Galgotias University (2017–2025), Echelon Institute of Technology (2011–2017), and N.C. College of Engineering (2006–2011).

He also has industry experience as a Software Developer at CSE India Pvt. Ltd. His career reflects a blend of academic excellence, research leadership, and technical expertise.

Dr. Kumar believes in building strong foundational knowledge through conceptual clarity, practical exposure, and consistent engagement. He aims to foster analytical thinking, innovation, and technical confidence through a balanced blend of theory and applied learning.

Dr. Kumar holds prestigious professional memberships including Senior Member IEEE and ACM. He has completed certifications including AWS Academy Cloud Foundations, Cloud Architecting, UiPath RPA certifications, NPTEL courses, and Coursera specializations. He has several granted and published patents in AI, IoT, Data Science, and Security, and qualified UGC-NET in 2020.

Dr. Kumar has an extensive research portfolio with publications in high-impact SCI and Scopus-indexed journals such as ACM Computing Surveys, International Journal of Web and Grid Services, and Journal of Interactive Multimedia and Artificial Intelligence. His work spans DNA computing for cloud security, secure access control systems, authentication models, multimedia processing, and machine learning applications.

He has published numerous conference papers in IEEE and Springer venues and contributed book chapters with IGI Global, Elsevier, and Bentham Science. He has also co-edited books in cloud migration, edge computing, machine learning in security, and AI applications.

Additionally, he regularly serves as a reviewer for leading journals including IEEE Internet of Things Journal, The Journal of Supercomputing, Wireless Personal Communications, and ACM Transactions, and has played key roles in organizing IEEE-sponsored international conferences.
