Profile Summary
Dr. Aanchal Mittal is a recognized researcher in the field of sustainable materials and green packaging technologies. She completed her B.Tech. in Biotechnology from Banasthali University, Rajasthan, securing third rank, and her M.Tech. from the National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, where she secured first rank. She subsequently obtained her Ph.D. from the National Institute of Technology.
Her research contributions in green packaging technologies include one granted patent and another published patent. She has also been associated with a research project funded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), focusing on the development of sustainable packaging solutions. Dr. Mittal has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed international publications and presented her work at over 20 international conferences. She has chaired technical sessions at prestigious conferences such as Chemcon 2024 and the International Conference on Biofuels and Biomaterials (ICRBBR) 2023.
Work Experience
Before joining UPES, Dr. Aanchal Mittal served as Assistant Professor Senior Grade 2 at the School of Biosciences and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore. Her academic experience reflects a strong blend of teaching, research, and institutional contribution in biotechnology and sustainable technologies.
Research Interests
Green Composites, Eco-Friendly Packaging, Food Packaging, Waste to Wealth, Circular Economy, Sustainable Materials.
Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Mittal believes that effective teaching requires creating a learning environment where students feel supported, motivated, and encouraged to participate actively. Her teaching approach focuses on building strong conceptual understanding while developing critical thinking and practical application skills.
She sees herself not only as an instructor but also as a facilitator guiding students toward independent and meaningful learning. To promote engagement, she integrates flipped classroom methods, short quizzes, case studies, and real-world problem analysis. This enables students to move beyond memorization and cultivate analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Courses Taught
Dr. Mittal teaches several core and specialized biotechnology courses for B.Tech., M.Tech., and M.Sc. students, including Bioprocess Technology, Downstream Processing, Analytical Techniques in Biotechnology, and Fundamentals of Chemical Engineering.
Through these courses, she introduces students to the principles and practical aspects of bioprocess development, including production, recovery, and purification of biological products, while emphasizing the integration of biological systems with engineering principles.
Scholarly Activities
Dr. Aanchal Mittal has actively contributed to multidisciplinary research in sustainable materials and green packaging technologies, with a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and practical impact. Her work integrates material science, biotechnology, and environmental engineering to address emerging challenges in sustainable packaging.
She has been involved in CSIR-supported research projects focused on eco-friendly packaging solutions.
